This is actually the story of Lord Dunmore's War in 1774 Kentucky. A man named Greathouse led a raid amog the Shawnee villages along thr Ohio River. He massacred the family, including the pregnant wife of a half native American, half French, Mingo chief named Logan, crucifying her and cutting open her belly. Greathouse was being pursued by George Rogers Clark and John Anderson, sent to bring him to justice by the Colonial Governor of Virginia. Logan came home just as Clark and Anderson discovered the massacre and thought that it had been perpetrated by them. There ensued an Indian war in which too many were killed on both sides and which allowed Greathoiuse to evade justice. Clark and Logan were eventually able to come together and clear up the misunderstanding. This resulted in Logan's speach to the Virginia House of Burgesses, delivered by Clark, which Thomas Jefferson called the most eloquent words ever spoken on the American Continent, comparing Logan to the Roman oritor Cicero. For many years it was taught in American Schools. In the end, Greathouse didn't escape justice. Years later, George Rogers Clark and Simon Kenton cought word of Greathouse leading his family on an expedition down the Ohio River to settle in the West. They conveyed this information to the Shawnee, and tough Logan was long dead, Greathouse's entire family, including women and children, was intercepted and very brutally tortured and murdered. They were not mourned.
