Don't you think this was anti-German propaganda..... more than 60 years after the last war. The USA must have felt very threatend by Germany then, but now they have succeeded ..... The new government following orders.... wonderful

Does everything have to be about Germany all the time. My grandfather lost 3 brothers in the war and he served himself, my mother and grandmother mentioned it. But no one would have insulted the average German, maybe crack a joke or two about Germans over a life time, and a good laugh at the Faulty towers German skit.

This show is about the generation lost everything and slowly rebuilt their lives while they grieved and overcame fear and depression. Two world war so close together would leave everyone suffering and living with real trauma for the rest of their lives xo

Not just any .. But the anthem's version during Nazi Germany. That's why it was so cringy. The words had been already softened by the time of her singing.

This was a much better show than people gave it credit for. It suffered because it was compared to Mad Men.. JUST because they both took place in the 60's. Secondly, it was on after Desperate Housewives which was in it's final season and nobody was watching that show by then. Finally, it was on opposite season one of Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, ABC sucks.

I purchased the full Pan Am Season one about two years ago, and still watch. What a shame the networks couldn't allow good, "clean," entertainment to continue through this series. What to say about Karine but so classy and talented. One of my all time favorite lines.. "you smell like whisky and cigarettes..., and you smell like Paris." :) Cheers to a wonderful show that paid tribute to one of the most classiest airlines ever to operate. Just like the airline, gone before its time.

I completely missed this show though I was peripherally aware of it. I was surprised to learn, now it being late-July of 2019, that it premiered almost _eight_ years ago. Amazon has the entire series for $10 which is a real bargain for something as rich as this amazing show is.

As a child, she would have been forced to learn it by the Nazis. After the war, the anthem was changed slightly to make it more suitable for peace time, but the version she sings talks about how Deutchland should rule over all and basically take over every country on the planet. So her singing it made things a bit awkward!

i never understood the thing about her singing the national anthem... what was it about?
@piterfanpsi5 жыл бұрын
Please translate! 😊 portuguese to english: Ela se forçou a cantar o hino!
@MacEoin5 жыл бұрын
@@piterfanpsi Translation: 'She is forced to sing the anthem. She does not sing because she really wants to. She carried a trauma from her childhood with regard to the Nazis, and singilng the German anthem was an attempt to 'treconcile' herself with the counry and with the Germans, including an effort to make herself agreeable to them, singing for these two kind Germans.' I'm not sure I agree. She sings the Nazi version of the anthem and does so with great intensity to drive home what she thinks of the people who killed her parents. It is a sensational moment. Karine's mastery of languages is formidable.
@Howyaduing3 жыл бұрын
It was Hitler‘s national anthem as she was forced to learn as a child growing up in occupied France at the time I didn’t know what it was either so I was a little shocked and awed to see that nobody was clapping for her since she had a beautiful voice.
@RB-xj9kr9 ай бұрын
Not really, no, she didn’t try to please them. It was a rebuke from the get-go.
