Your pro car arguments in America towards the end are all wrong. The US was built by and for rail not cars. Rail is faster and more efficient, and far less deadly than interstates, and served to connect this country very well before cars ruined everything.

Why don't they pump that money into widening the FDR from beginning to end & other roadways to improve traffic flow & help the congestion pricing issue?

The thing about the Chinese president being chosen by government officials doesn't sound sound any different from how prime ministers are chosen by parliaments, the ways you described it. Of course, a system where whoever was already in power gets to decide who can run does (depending on exactly how much power over this they have) make it difficult for the government to shift away from what those in power now want in a way that is more amplified the less direct the democracy is.

10:11 I notice you list Baptists as one of three "Old Lights" (along with Puritans and Presbyterians), but then later say the Baptists came to dominate the "New Lights" (along with the Methodists). I guess they were different Baptists, maybe even at different times.

Yeah even just being in I.T. on the infrastructure engineering side I think we average 1.5x the salary that Canadians get in those same roles. Specialized smart workers are rewarded well in America for their accomplishments. Other countries could do this too if they were willing to pay for quality of work provided but wages kind of don't go over 100k usd anywhere outside of the United States to be frank. I was looking at Systems engineering jobs (120k USD in America requires 10 years experience and a lot of knowledge) in Europe and they pay like maybe 80k USD which is how much we pay our junior software engineers. (sometimes new college grads or those with only a year of experience). TLDR: If I were european and a good tech worker I would immigrate to double my salary ngl it's a no-brainer even for the drop in quality of life you can easily pay for organic foods and have the best healthcare from your employer and still have a ton of money.

The US underfunds its own horrid education system, and then goes on to bribe the bright minds from other nations to come, their country of origin having paid for all the tuition beforehand. IT IS THEFT! Braindrain is theft, not unsimilar from natural resource extraction from colonies. It is a form of hybrid warfare even, and should be treated accordingly by the victim countries.

For Puritans in New England, wealth, prosperity, was an indication of moral superiority and thus God's favor and salvation. The emphasis on building wealth thus was initially double pronged. This implies that salvation is not communal, but individual. So the communal religiosity became less pronounced. Your wealth was an indication of how you were doing morally. Thus a rich person was not berated religiously as it was assumed he was morally superior. In any event, wealth creation for the self was the common denominator for religious and non-religious alike. Think a society of Ebenezer Scrooges. That kind of society religion wasn't going to be over-enforced communally, but morality, education and thrift were. And if you were poor, you were also bedamned.

The video has a bunch of history mixed with anti-Christian propaganda (e.g. science and reason being a product of Enlightenment and being opposed to faith). Despite all the details covered here it feels like it seriously missed the mark somewhere. If the U.S. was 91% Christians in 1976 then much of this video is irrelevant.

Using the term "insanely" as a sweeping and all-encompassing comment to describe the faith life of a large group of people covering a large portion of a country shows an ugly bias and causes you to lose all credibility.

Excellent summary of the religious craziness of the USA. Just a few details need tweaking... -- The Pilgrims who founded Plymouth were on the whole rather less fanatical then the Puritans who founded Boston about ten years later. About 1/3 of the Pilgrims actually stayed in the Netherlands because they were free of the harrassment they received in England. In NE Anglicanism was associated with the Crown, so people weren't overly interested. Hence the present UU & UCC churches. Also, Providence and other NE cities were founded by Puritans from the Boston area who held the same general beliefs but felt the 'Boston Puritans' were too extreme and too intrusive into daily life. -- A LOT of the imagery shown does not match what's discussed at any given moment. Still, really good.

Here's the weird thing about farming in the US. Wine Country and Hops Country were the same place for quite some time. I am, as I'm sure you all guessed, talking of course about the state of New York before that blight sent it west. No one guessed New York? That's fine, New Jersey's State Vegetable is a fruit and a guy in Indiana tried to legislate Pi=3.2. This country is just packed full of surprises.
