American Standard gives us a 10-year warranty. They have changed the rubber gasket to a better one. I think it's a good idea to get the new free gasket from Standard and still use the washers. Great idea. Thank You

You can actually add extensions to your fill tubes and then readjust the fill valve so the water height will come up farther thus adding more weight to the flush valve seal and increasing the power of your toilet! NuFlush makes extension fill tube kits for the champion 4 flush valves in where you can extend your fill tube as high as you want. You're welcome👍

I used two 3oz (total of 6oz) fishing weights and tied them to the top via the whole used to connect the chain on the flapper. I doesn't seem to have fix the stupid thing.

Thank God I found your fix on KZfaq. I'm ready to replace the flush valve and fill valve. Because replacing the gasket is still leaking.

Those people like you that have problems with this toilet must just be plain unlucky. The 1.2 to 1.6 gallons of water in the bowl weights about 10 pounds and holds down the flapper. Just how effective can a few washers be when added to gain some weight. Seal failure is due to water quality so that is the bulk of the issue, not the toilet.

So is the problem that the top part is not heavy enough or is it that the gasket is not made good enough and develops bubbles letting the water go through?

Careful with using a shop vac. I've seen one catch fire cleaning a pellet grill. One ember in the vac would be all it takes.

That's a great question. Ohio blue tip matches were always the best! Now - Diamond makes "green tip" but they are nowhere near as good as the Ohio's. That's progress, I guess.

Yes- i agree American Standard should be doing MUCH more. They are knowingly manufacturing defective toilets...then charging more for the "fix it" parts, once the warranty expires. Clearly, this is not right. I hope the washer trick works for you all. All I can tell you is that I will never buy or recommrnd an American Standard toilet again. Someone

A great place to find cast iron is your local scrap iron place just found a 10" chicken fryer, a 10 " regular skillet and another 10" skillet plus a lid that will fit either of the skillets. I paid .30 cents per pound and it only cost me 6.00 dollars for all. Happy hunting.

I purchased two American Standard Champion toilets about five years ago and both have caused me nothing but grief. Research has certainly revealed that countless customers have experienced the same problem with these toilets. When I noticed my water bill escalating each month, I began calling plumbers. All of them tell me it’s my toilets, but none of them seem to have a remedy. I called American standard last week and they sent me out replacement rings and fill valves. I installed the new parts yesterday. Last night I heard the infamous ghost flush. I was about to call American Standard this morning and ran across your video. I think I’m going to try your idea and see how it works. By the time I add up the price of my two toilets, water bills for the last five years, plumber bills, and all the anxiety this has caused, I think American standard should be be doing more for their customers by way of refunds. Thanks for posting this video. Wish me luck!

Wow, you've sparked interesting discussions in your comments section! I thought I was seasoning my new, "pre-seasoned" cast iron skillet properly, but when I checked last week, I saw that it's got a bunch of rust on it. Maybe I didn't season it since it said it was pre-seasoned ... I can't remember! Anyway, it was the Lodge two-piece iron skillet set, just like the one you restored, so I'm reading up on removing the rust from you and your commenters! Thanks Old Man!

You'll frequently find cast iron pans with food cooked onto the interior. These may be cleaned by soaking them with vinegar and scouring them carefully. Once you have cleaned the exterior, the standard format of wiping the surfaces with oil (I use lard) and baking at 450° for an hour and allowing the pan to cool in the oven until warm to the touch will do it. Cure with oil at least twice and more properly three or four times. I have a Wagner fry pan that I have done that with and it's a marvel to cook with.

Whale........Letz make it simple. For a really nasty pan, i throw the entire pan in the wood stove and roast it red right on top of the coals. ALL of the crud and rust is burned right off.....inside and out. Now you have a factory-new pan! i scrub it thoroughly inside and out, dry and inspect it. i'll orbit sand the inside if necessary. Then it gets three, one-hour bakes @425 using crisco. Then i start cooking. Every now and then when the pan needs sprucing-up, i give it a very thin coat of grapeseed oil and give it a few minutes on the stovetop at near the smoke point. To avoid probs, i reserve one pan for searing, one for eggs only, one for gravies, one for general frying/sauteing, etc. The more, the merrier. i even have a crisco-seasoned, 10.5" stainless pan that i use just for omelets. These beauties won't ever end up in a second hand store, but on my descendant's stove tops. Thatz the real beauty of cast iron.🍳🥘😉
