I explored full time RVing as an option for retirement living, eventually renting a class A and roaming the western states for 6 months. Ultimately I decided to live in the Philippines. I left behind a lot that I loved but I don't miss the rude and/or entitled people who commit the indescretions you are describing here. I can't imagine these problems will improve as more Americans feel compelled to choose a mobile lifestyle.

No! It’s been working great ever since. We did have all the slides and leveling system serviced at the Winnebago service center last summer and everything checked out fine apart from a couple of minor repairs.

I am considering going on the road and this was very helpful. I think i am going to go with a trailer or 5th wheel. It sounds easier to service or replace a tow vehicle over the entire rig.

I had a family member who had an RV with that V10, the unit eventually gave out and he went on to swap a Cummins 6.7 Diesel into it (i believe it was out of a crashed RAM truck), not an issue since then, and it's got plenty of power for the RV it's in.

We have a 2016 Tiffin Allegro Open Road 32SA. Just blew the engine, Ford V10 Triton, with only 7311 miles on the unit. The mechanic is southern Oregon was not surprised as he has changed out many others. He believes a push rod came lose and went through the block into a water jacket as we had antifreeze dripping out of the muffle and he could hear a clanging when he turned over the motor. He claims Ford used sub par parts in the engine starting in 2014. Remanufactured engine from Ford $9750. Total estimate $16,059. I contacted Ford, and due to time and that we are the second owner, they didn’t really care. Just said thanks for the info. Good luck everyone.

Here's something interesting. People are talking about boon-docking as if it were a new thing. But I remember back in the 50's and 60's, THAT WAS CAMPING! Back before camping turned into huge motor homes, where people could get away from it all while taking it all with them. Fortunately, there are still places that still exist as "primitive campsites." One of the best is Oswald West State Park in northern Oregon. No power, but flush toilets!

Thank you. Great info. I'm full timing in my 6th year in my 99 35' Class A Georgie boy. It's one of those V10's with the short threads in aluminum heads for the spark plugs. One common issue on these was the plug blowing out of the hole, steel plug body, and aluminum head with only 3 or 4 threads. What happens is the aluminum threads seize to the steel plug and every plug Change removes a little bit of aluminum until finally there aren't any threads left hold the plug and it blows out violently. Ok, so here I am, in remote northern New mexico, about 100 miles out of Albuquerque when suddenly I'm startled buy a very loud BANG! bang, bang, bang.....on and on. I Got to the side of the highway ok and at idle this bang is bad. Pulling the dog house, I couldn't see an issue with just a glance, but in starting up, it was obvious with this spark plug bouncing up and down, destroying the plug and the coil over it. It absolutely could not be run this way. Lucky to be towing my Ford Ranger..... Looked up the closest auto parts store, 40 miles south as it turned out, drove in to pick up a coil and plug. I got very lucky (this time), the new plug held with the remaining threads, and I made it to my destination in Sun Valley. 9 months go by. I kinda forgot about it somehow, I'm heading east on US 60 approaching Show Low AZ, on a steep, high torque hill when thar BANG reminded me I had a bad plug hole I forgot to address, only this time it won't stay in. The threads were completely gone from the head, I'm on a hill and can't disconnect my truck because the tow bar is in a bind. I started calling every shop I can get Google to show me, one said they could do it but wouldn't, no room to do it, but gave me a phone number to a mobile tech, who passed it off to yet another fella that came out on my 2nd day stranded and put in a cheap steel sleeve. This sleeve was set in too deep in the cylinder, and the plug kept getting tapped by the piston just hard enough to close the gap and make it misfire.. ..foe the next 1600 miles I fought with a poorly running engine. A very rough and exhausting trip. Ok, that was enough of that crap! I researched and found what is the best insert for this problem, thankful for it being so common that somebody created a permanent fix, the CalVan inserts kit is perfect. It has a shoulder preventing it from installing too deep and sets the plug at the proper depth. The kit for all plugs was only about $230 and I proceeded to sleeve all 10. Never a worry about that again. The coach is still running great, 3 years later. Sometime I might describe my 4 blowouts in a month issue, they went so fast I couldn't keep up with it ....warnings in there about tires over 5 years old, even if treads a good and they look fine.

We have the older 2v ,V10. 35k mi, Hear these are more reliable than the 3v. I hope so. Didn't another shop charge you $2600 for Valve timing job for the same issue?
@LyfUninterrupted
@LyfUninterrupted 2 күн бұрын
Unfortunately, the first shop misdiagnosed the problem. This misdiagnoses led them to change parts that were most likely perfectly fine. We paid them for the initial repair as they were confident they found the problem. Sadly, they would go on to tell us that the coach would in fact need a new engine. As we recall, they touted many years of collective experience in engine repair. Guess all that experience didn’t amount to much in our case.

Hear is ware you mest up the 3 valve are junk from the start. I have a V10 triton 2 valve it has 367284 miles on it and it runs like a top .and I would not be afraid to jump into it and drive cross country and back.

Hmmm….the engine builder said he sees far more 2 valve V10s that are trash. Ours was the first V10 3 valve he has ever rebuilt. Guess I’ll trust him since he’s rebuilt over 30,000 engines. Mostly Chevy, Ford and GM engines.
@sydowsam
@sydowsam Ай бұрын
Well I think you missed the point. This vehicle has over 300000 miles on it. The motor has never been rebuilt. The only thing that's ever been done is that usual oil change and spark plugs. And that's it so the original cost of the vehicle. Basically all I have and best to do is. And it runs like a top.It's 4 wheel drive.It'll go through 3 foot of snow and like I said, it's never been out of the chassie.It's original three hundred thousand miles moving towards four hundred thousand

I was just curious if by chance you know what’s different with the 2018 Equinox. We have the 2018 with the 1.5 and AWD and everything I’ve looked up says not to flat tow it. As far as I can tell we have the same car just a different color and year. I just don’t understand what’s different. Thank you if you can help me understand and thank you if you can’t!
@LyfUninterrupted
@LyfUninterrupted Ай бұрын
If it’s the same vehicle, just a different year, then it should be flat towable. Check your owners manual for that information. Also, you can go to etrailer.com to see all the required and recommended equipment needed to flat tow. Hope this helps.

@taylorsmith6396 Ай бұрын
@@LyfUninterrupted Thank You. It’s definitely the same vehicle but my manual says not to flat tow. I wasn’t sure if it was just updated literature or if they had made a small change in the vehicle 2018 and 2019 say not to in the manual and etrailer doesn’t list it for my year with the 1.5 awd. I just can’t find if anything was actually changed in the vehicle or if they just updated their recommendations. Thank you for responding! If I find a definitive answer I’ll post my findings!

I lived in Alaska for two winters, 2001-03, in Fairbanks. Lots of RVs lumber up the Alcan every year, and the mechanic I took my old Chevy s-10 to also had the heavy stuff to work on these - they said that RVs were tough to work on, not because of the mechanical stuff, but because it’s basically someone’s HOME. It make sense too.

Great, detailed how-to! I can attest to the peat-fly correlation. I had them occasionally (like fruit flies) when using peat and have none since switching to coconut coir. In addition to using a vinegar spritz after each use, I pour a bit of vinegar into the liquid tank after dumping. It helps to prevent the crystals from forming in the first place. I had a little giggle at the number of uses. It brought back the “wees and sticks” chart from the novel “Wifey” from… 30(?) years ago. 🤣

Sure sounds like its just a rocker or lifter or roller on the rocker, to me. Some the ford engines also have some think in the intake that can make that noise. I really dont think you'll need a engine. But you do need a good machanic familiar with that particular engine. Imo

I bought and tried Simori and was super dissapointed. The fabric is overly too stretchy; without going into the water and trying them out, my feet felt like it wasn't in place and felt like it was flopping off the bottom soles. It felt very uncomfortable. Dissapointed in the use of it's overly stretch fabic. Aside fromt that I do like the design; it's too bad the shoe doesn't stay firm when walking around.
