interesting topic...I beg to differ if this is the correct way as recommended as per vehicle standards. This is almost considered sectioning and the standards to ensure integrity is much more in-depth, with rustproofing before and after etc.....

It looks like the new trans cooler sheds heat towards the radiator - does that affect engine temps?

This was helpful, as my softener was showing the same symptoms. So I ordered a new switch from Amazon, and the problem was still there. I was almost certain that I was going to have to replace the water softener, BUT THEN I took a closer look at the cam wheel that actuates the switch. It had a pretty good crust of salt and corrosion on it, especially in the recesses. So I scraped it all clean with a little screwdriver, and reset the machine again. It went into regen mode, so I will monitor and see if this truly solve the issue. So: make sure you look at the cam wheel and be sure it's clean enough for the switch to operate through its full stroke.

Take the cross member off on the bottom and install from the bottom. 3 bolts on each side and remove. Cooler goes in from the bottom. Mine came with rubber bushings for the bottom mounts so it sits higher.

A repair at reasonable costs. A little more work, and it will be done. Without r,ust treatment of the very rusty parts and the also rusted floor panels, it will last from 12 o'clock til noon, as we say in Germany. Good work in vain.😊

I had that problem when I installed cork, didn't bother to read the instructions torqued it down installed the carb the works, only to find out the rear cork was completely off and dangling! Didn't bother to start it, only this time I removed it bought a Edelbrock not that cheap made in China (intake) crap which by the way didn't align at all and I had to grind it-I just gave up on it wasn't sealing correctly, the Edelbrock aligned correctly, I am very cautious now about what I am doing. My first rebuild!

That's wild that you got the lifters apart without using vise grips. I tried banging them on wood like this and all I did was succeed in driving the lifter 1/8" deep into the wood. It was not coming apart without pliers, very stubborn.

You are advising people to use petroleum jelly on rubber O-rings! I suggest you do a little bit of research about that. You will find that it eats away at the rubber. Viewers, this is why you should thoroughly review the repair manual for your machine first and foremost before searching KZfaq because KZfaqrs are not necessarily experienced mechanics

There's a big myth about not mixing the lifters up, Ideally yes try and not too, But I rebuilt an M54 top end on my 330ci with Ebay scraps, Different lifters in different trays with different cams😂 It's the quietest M54 you will ever hear😊

Is It easier to rebuild the top end with the motor still in the sled? I’ve got a 2003 Firecat 500 and I’m trying to decide whether to pull the motor or not for top end rebuild

Oh man thanks for this. I thought I was screwed. I am a little embarrassed to admit it, but when I was replacing the button after the mirror fell off, I put the dang thing on upside down. Even after telling myself to be sure it was in the right orientation. I noticed it pretty quick, but it was too late to change position at that point. Anyway, you saved my bacon brother.
