Nice documentary but I have some doubts about S. Maximus being bigger than the T-rex considering the largest specimen of tyrannosaurus known was said to have weighed 15.000 kgs by the most recent studies.
@dinosaurdocumentary7773 күн бұрын
While Saurophaganax maximus was a large theropod, it is not considered bigger than Tyrannosaurus rex. The largest known specimen of T. rex, called "Scotty," was estimated to weigh around 8,870 kg (19,555 pounds). In contrast, estimates for Saurophaganax suggest it weighed around 3,000-4,500 kg. Therefore, T. rex is significantly larger in terms of weight. Feathers. Where exactly did they come up with the feathers?
@dinosaurdocumentary77711 күн бұрын
Paleontologists inferred feathers on Nanuqsaurus hoglundi from related theropods like Yutyrannus, which had fossilized feathers, suggesting that feathers were common among tyrannosaurids. This inference is based on the need for insulation in its cold, Arctic environment, despite no direct fossil evidence for Nanuqsaurus itself.

@@dinosaurdocumentary777 but we don't know how it looked. Could very well be smooth and more robust.
@toughbutsweet16 күн бұрын
There is little to no fossil evidence of feathers on Tyrannosauridae. What has been preserved has been growths which could have been the spine of a feather or spines similar to those on modern day reptiles made of the same substance as fingernails. The artists conceptions take a lot of liberties, depicting snow, which evidence does not prove to have been abundant, feathers, and camouflage. All based on modern animals and climate.
@thewoollyviking59286 күн бұрын
1. It’s a coelurosaur, the same family of theropods that modern birds belong to. 2. A somewhat distant relative, Yutyrannus, is known to possess a coat of feathers and both animals are comparable in size and ecology. 3. While not as cold as modern Alaska, temps in the Prince Creek formation were comparable to the Pacific Northwest and were perfectly capable of reaching freezing temperatures. It’s entirely possible that it didn’t possess feathers and that survived by evolving to retain more fat to stay warm. But until we find more fossil evidence both are equally possible and feathers would have made more sense to retain since it’s the ancestral trait.
@DemitriVladMaximovКүн бұрын
Feather like structures seem to be a basal trait to archosaurs. Recent studies on the body mass to surface ratio of ceolophysis show early dinosaurs would have died of hypothermia without feathers. Also the pictnofibers of pterosaurs are believed to be homologous to protofeathers, and the cells that form the scutes in crocodilians are the same cells that give rise to feathers in birds. So it is likely that dinosaurs all started with some sort of feathers, but lost them as their body mass got to a point where external insulation would have caused problems.
