hey glad you enjoyed the ride. normally in more modern cars i dont blip the gas because they have a slight amount of rev hang but the RPMs drop so fast between gears in this car that if you dont tap the gas, its not a smooth transition. basically im just rev matching for the next gear so i can just let the clutch out as fast as possible. its so smooth doing it that way, it almost feels like im floating gears. if that makes any sense?

I have a 97 cobra that I owned it since new. I did not use it much the early years but now it is my daily (though I only drive 2-4 times a week). I love it. It looks good, but dated. It drives nice, is really comfortable, it has features but not an abundance of them, every control and knob is exactly where you want it. It does not get much easier or better than this. The key originally has a remote attached to it which means you have a small rounded soft plastic thing you will not hurt your leg on.I use a separate key ring for my other keys and keep them in the pocket. There is no problem hitting the dash for the first gear with the original shifter. I cannot understand why it has so many wiper settings either. The reverse can be a bit finicky at times to engage. Power is adequate but not impressive. Mine sounds a lot less than yours as I have the original exhaust.

My first car, a Chevette, was better. Hell, my AMC PACER was more reliable!!! I hope the V8 version was better because the V6 SUCKED BAWLS!!! No zip at all. Not even a little. Totally unreliable and always something breaking. If it wasn't the transmission going bad, then it was the heater or the AC. Mine LOOKED like a Camaro. There's a few things , 1 LS/LT chev motors have windowed main webs to , it's about equalising windage in the bottom end , less parstayic drag on the crank 2 has anyone bar a few ever seen a 403 drop a crank , no ! Olds engineers did massive testing on the 403 bottom end before it was released , even in truck/motor home applications they exceed 180k miles. 3 there are now many 403s out there at 600 HP and turning 6000 + rpm . In fact Edelbrock just released a Victor Air Gap Intake for the 403 that has a rev range 3500 to 7500 . Plus new for 2025 alloy Edelbrock Victor Heads . The windowed block has now years later proven much stronger than ever thought . Plus new forged flat top pistons for the 403 that brings compression up to 10.5 to one with stock heads , must remember the 403 4A heads have larger ports and big block valves , at 82.5 cc that's only 2.5 cc bigger than the stock 400 big block Olds with the same valves.

I am in the process of resurrecting a '65 425 and yeah, same thing - tons of silvery thick paste sludge everywhere, jamming up all sorts of vital orifices - which partly explains the number 7 cylinder SNAFU that originally killed it. Since I have the block fully stripped and cleaned, apart from fixing up the cylinders and prepping it for new bearings, pistons and such, I'm also taking plenty of time to go over every bit of the thing, and the heads. That entire drainback pathway, even on a first year casting, is full of sharp edges, jagged inclusions, and the like. About 5 minutes with a 1/8" carbide on the dremel took care of those pretty well. Will do the same when I do the build of the heads. I also highly recommend taking a chainsaw file and breaking the edge on anything sharp, except for key areas (pretty much around the main cap/bearing interfaces be really careful).
