That’s a long climb when the ship isn’t rolling and everything isn’t covered in ice. Imagine what it’s like under normal conditions.

In heavy weather the ladder is rarely used, but the pilot instead boards via helicopter

Rigging of this combination is totally wrong,, can't be so high to climb

Exactly, it's already over 9 metres. I could refused to board. The master had been warned.

Hello, I am not pilot. But I will occasionally climb pilot ladder to broad a ship. It is very understandable that each climbing is a matter of life and dead. Because beside your physical fitness, you don't know exactly the condition of the ladder you climb.....

Some of the port by chopper, but it is easy to hurt pilot's shoulder during hanging , and hurt knee or leg during landing on ship, esp. in rough weather.

@@flybeep1661 SOLAS chapter 5, reg 23' pilot transfer arangements',... but I'm sure wikipedia will tell you the same . Furthermore every commercial vessel has an IMPA pilot boarding arrangement poster on display on their bridge ... I sure hope you are not a pilot or mariner...

Could at least be wearing a harness clipped onto a rope coming down the side, could maybe give a bit of lift as well.
@flybeep16615 жыл бұрын
In that case the rope would need to tensioned at the bottom for that to work which is not an option here. Tower climbers use such a system (when available). The other option would be to use a dual clip on system which would mean climbing it would take way longer. There really is no reason to use a harness system, if he falls he'll hurt himself sure but it's not deadly.
