Being from Wisconsin I can say for sure this is NOT the best cheese in the state. This is a tourist trap for people who don't know better. I am not saying they have bad cheese, it is still good. However the best cheeses are found in the small town cheese factories. Almost all have a small store attached to the factory. And quite a few of them have won international awards. If you are driving through Wisconsin look up local cheese factories, most will be rated very high and be far better.
@lesserknownadventuresАй бұрын
We've actually been traveling through more of Wisconsin lately, and you're right. We've found a lot of small shops that have some really good stuff. We just stopped by Carr Valley while we were at House on the Rock again, and they're awesome. Nice people too. They have a chocolate cheese that's pretty good. So now this has become a thing for us. Whenever we're traveling through we'll look places up. The thing with Mars, is the size. They just have a really good selection of stuff, and it's nice to stop by when we're going up that way. But I definitely see your point. Any that you recommend? We were just up in Mineral Point last weekend, and filmed there. I think we're going to try to hit up the places ran by the Wisconsin Historical Society. Wisconsin has a ton of really cool places.
@patrickarts9091Ай бұрын
@@lesserknownadventures Here in central Wis I would say Mullins Cheese and Dairy state Cheese Co are good. If you look up what cheese factories have won what awards, that can be a good guide. Specifically if you are looking for a specific kind of cheese. Carr Valley is rated very high. Good stuff.

For people who don’t own a boat or don’t want to spend hundreds on a boat tour, you can actually just drive to the Boldt Castle Yacht House on Wellesley Island and buy a ticket to both the Yacht House and the castle for $16 (ages 13+) and they have a little ferry that takes you over to Heart Island that’s included in the price.
@lesserknownadventures2 ай бұрын
We had looked at that option too. We ended up using Uncle Sam for the boat tour, and it wasn’t too bad on price at all. Next time we’re out there though we’ll try that. We found you definitely need enough time at the castle to actually check everything out. Thanks for the heads up! And I’ll check out your film fest too. We also make short films.

Visited with my parents at least a couple of times as a kid growing up. Personally, my favorite part of walking through the House was going through the Streets Of Yesteryear and looking in all the shop windows. Also really enjoyed the music room. If I remember right, there was also a Chamber Of Horrors exhibit, which my Mom at first wouldn't allow me to look at. After pestering her, she finally gave in. Remembered it showed the ways people were tortured and killed through the ages, such as by the Guillotine, the Rack, etc. Mannequins were used to show the people being tortured/killed. Some had red paint on them representing blood, which was gory to a boy. Wonder if this exhibit is still on display? Overall, I enjoyed my visits, and am glad the House is still open and operating. Sadly, not too far from this was another tourist location, called Little Norway, which is no longer operating, with the buildings either torn down or moved.

The Chamber of Horrors exhibit isn't still on display, but they may have moved it to the Halloween exhibits they do. We unfortunately haven't made it during that time yet (Halloween is our favorite time of the year). We'll try to make it up there this season and see if they include it then. Thanks for watching!
