My Great Dane doesn’t like other people. My kids friends have to run if he’s out accidentally. It’s awful. Trying to fix this since kids will be in and out all summer.

I wish I knew more before okaying my son to bring a Dane home. But I will say this. I work with my 7 month old every day and he’s getting better but I wish I knew things before. This channel is helping me a lot. Thankfully my Oden baby is learning quick although he is rebellious. But he’s workable and we are making progress.

I've always had rescue or pound puppies, I decided I wanted a big dog ( I'm a big fella at 6'6") that I didn't have to bend over to pet. I did all my research and Danes were one of the first breeds I crossed off my list due to their health issues and short life span. I finally settled on Scottish Deer Hounds as my first pure bred big dog. Then my wife got a text from a work friend about looking for a home for a 1 year old Dane that needed a good home. I agreed to allow a visit. Long story short , I took on another rescue, and I'm so in love with the Great Dane breed, I'll never feel complete without a big, goofy, needy, loving, hurty 😅, Dane in my life.

Our first Dane, Yasha, was 11 when he died...we had him put down - old age, joints... no quality of life. We then had Dino and Diana, a rescue, who had a cerebral incident when she was 6, and had to be put down. Dino, named after my Italian drycleaner! died of bloat 2 years ago, juat under 7 years old. We were so careful, followed all the rules. A week before he died (in our arms) I took him to the vet - who said there was nothing wrong with him., but he died of bloat nevertheless after a walk in the nature reserve. Apparently there's something called slow bloat - does anyone know anything about that? We are not over his loss, and I doubt we ever will be. After the Danes I could never have any other breed. Our hearts are broken and will remain so.

I’m convinced my 5 month old Dane is defiant on purpose. I have done it all and he knows where to go to the bathroom. I take him out consistently but example…. I had taken him out to pee. He went pee. We went inside. 30 min later I’m standing at the sink doing dishes. He had just gotten love and attention before. He just decides to pee on the floor. I had just started doing dishes. No more then 30 seconds in! And this is a common thing. He also poos on the concrete instead of the grass. I have to hover him to go on the grass and then do super praises and treats when he’s good. But he still defies me and tries to temp me and go on the concrete. I can’t figure out why he’s acting this way. He’s a brat but I adore him. We have commands, we do praises, we do treats, we take him out every hour to go pody and he still acts like a brat. He also ignores me sometimes. Completely oblivious and loves to eat bugs. It’s really weird.

Cropping is not about making a dog look scary. It is to protect the dog when doing their job, hunting. We are so removed from hunting as a whole we forget this. Great Danes are intended to be boar hunters that actually catch and old the boar. Big floppy ears get cut and mangled when fighting with the pig and would likely get infected. The crop prevents this. It also helps the dogs ears stay dryer and prevents infections. The statement to otherwise in the video is a propagandic lie. People need to stop being so damn sensitive and effeminate. Spaying and neutering are more invasive and dangerous to a dog than cropping.

If you have I’ll try and look for it.. but can you speak about Bloat and Great Danes, and how it can be prevented.. because A Great Dane is my choice of dog but breaks my heart at how short their life spans are and a big cause is because of bloat:( any advice/information would be appreciated as all the information I’ve came across is most certainly a death sentence:(

This video is quite old and unsure you'll see this, but is it possible to teach that jumping up when they want is not acceptable, but train it as a command? ie: "up"? Enjoy the up, but not when they want, as requested

I adore Danes and have had them for well over 35 years. We always have 1, usually have 2, and sometimes have 3. Our car and camper were purchased with them in mind. They need their space, and I am happy to give it to them. I just love them!!! Most of them have been rescued, or someone needing to rehome the Dane they weren't quite prepared for. Some have come from horrible situations and some from families with busy lives and busy children and the Dane lived in a crate, or a basement, or a garage. SAD! We have finally adopted a puppy after many years of adopting adults. She is a 90-pound tornado at 6 months and an absolute love. They truly aren't for everyone, but I can't imagine not having a velcro Dane at my side, ever.

Taking are 6 month old dane to the holiday gathering was a great he did so well with the kids and dogs there.
