Glad ya liked it. I think I used 3 diffrent combos. For the 5.8 I used a dobyns fury 795sb with a shimano curado k 200. For the 3.8, the rod is from a local company called little miami river outfitters. It's the neorus model. For the 2.8, I used the phenix m1 7'8 with a shimano vandford reel. All super sick combos I have a ton of faith in.

I’ve fished above the dam and below the dam on the Roanoke River. there’s really good smallmouth fishing there I love the section just above the dam. Wading in and fly fishing is my favorite but sometimes the smallies are much deeper in the hot summer months and it’s best to spin fish for them. Were you above the dam or below it?
@River_Savage
@River_Savage 29 күн бұрын
@user-wn4if2ys4o we were below the dam but fished our way up to it. My buddy had a big 5 pound largemouth take a swipe at magdraft right at the rocks on his first cast. Hooked into somthing big the eventually broke him off too. Are there strioers in there too?

@@River_Savage The strippers do migrate up starting in Sept or Oct when weather cools. I caught a 15 lb stripper up there, but it wasn’t far up the Roanoke from SML. Maybe 300 yards or so.

You can just download Google earth pro, find a river near you, and zoom in looking for structure like bridges. Then, look for roads that lead to access that's close to the spots you found. Hope that helps!

@@River_Savage well my pvc did not thread into the painters pole. Drove a bolt through and added a nylon lock nut. Also got a longer screw (1/4-20). Also put a nylon lock nut on top and the the GoPro tripod mount. Fits fits great and this will prevent the screw from falling through. Probably easier to send pics

Awesome video!!! I just found your channel. Like seeing locals fishing the same rivers. Been thinking about drop shotting. Any suggestions on baits and hook sizes?
@River_Savage
@River_Savage 2 ай бұрын
Glad ya like the vid and channel. All the baits I got were for a saint clair trip I had booked but the weather messed up my plans, so I figured I'd throw them in our rivers lol. I basically looked for bassmaster tournement results on lake saint clair and bought a crap load of stuff so I really don't know which hooks I used. I know I like having 3/8 oz drop shot weights because you can use pliers and just cut them down to diffrent sizes vs buying dirrent sizes.
@TheMichiganFisherman
@TheMichiganFisherman 2 ай бұрын
It's been far too long since I've dropped by the channel. I like the new channel name. You and your buddy were on 'em. Some BIG smallies and the patterns on them were sick. ...but not as sick as the floating head. 😂 I can't believe you've just discovered the power of the dropshot. Get ready for a fish thumb like you've never seen before.
@River_Savage
@River_Savage 2 ай бұрын
I'm not really a big finesse fisherman but I bought a crapload of finesse stuff for a saint clair trip that got canceled twice now lol. That weather yall have up there is not wanting to cooperate with my vacation schedulel haha. So now I have an infinite amount of tubes, flatworms, and other dropshotable softplatsics I need to learn to use so I have a better idea when I can make it up to your neck of the woods.

Why do you prefer the irod over the dobyns?? Looking to buy the same rod as yours. Thanks
@River_Savage
@River_Savage 2 ай бұрын
The dobyns feels a bit spongey, the grips aren't as comfortable, and it's also stiffer then the irod. I fish a lot for river smallies and I don't really get much of a fight on the dobyns. It's good though. Probably better for fishing for largemouth because they get bigger. The irod just feels great to me.

@G2GFishing I'm debating starting a company just because that. I'm associated with rapala. 45% off them and their affiliate companies so I got the arishi for the same cost as a bass dash. there are very few original baits. it comes down to marketing and component quality. my hope is to price gouge the name brands while offering a better quality product for the consumer than the Chinese knock off. if I could profit 10k a year from it and pay entry fees off that I'd be happy

Good luck going down there now, theres a group of guys that fish it in shifts and u cant ever get the wall spot. They keep everything they catch, and if their cooler gets full, theyll take it to their car and grab another cooler. All day, everyday. And if u somehow get the wall spot, they will keep crossing ur line and aggravate u until u just give up and leave. Theyre always there, and theyre destroying the river.
