I just got back from a 7 day cruise on discovery princess and I was not impressed at all. The good, check in and out was seamless, rooms were nice and beds were soft, GiGi's pizza, Salty dog, and the pizza place on the lido deck, other then that the ship has some work to do. The bad, they are very short staff and you have to wait for ever for a drink, the pool at the font of the ship was closed majority of the time, all of the bars close down except for one by 10-11pm. All the entertainment is done for by 10-11pm, except a DJ playing music at the one bar that is still open, the Irish pub is by far the worst place to eat at, the food and service is horrible. There is a band that plays there like 2 or 3 times a day and they play the same 3 or 4 songs over and over, all of the entertainment shows last anywhere from 15-45 min. Majority of the deserts are of mousse form, if you like that then that is fine but some people don't, the cakes are very dry and not moist at all. The food in the buffet was pretty good but could be much better, the food at the standard restaurants was good service was hit or miss. The causal dinning restaurants, only one that we liked was crown grill, the Italian place and Irish pub was horrible. We did not eat at the catch restaurant. You can smoke in the casino, guess that is good for people that smoke but the smoke comes out of the casino into the main areas and that was not very pleasant. Not enough entertainment on the boat for everyone, each show is very crowded, need to have multiple shows going on at one time to spread people out but that does not happen since they are so short staffed on the boat. If you use the medallion app to order food it take for ever to get your food, room service was always at least an hour. The medallion app and internet service was not good at all, the schedules on the app didn't always match the ship schedule that was delivered to your room, room service pizza is not the same pizza you get from the pool or GiGi's pizza, it was some microwaveable pizza not a brick oven one. Now of course this is my experience that I had and fell that princess can do much better going forward.

The service is excellent in any area of the ship, but the salary is very low and the crew who work more than 15 hours are poorly treated. I worked for that company which was managed on board.😢

Just stumbled across your channel fellow Canadian Cruiser. Hopefully you will get to sail a lot to give you opportunities for more content. I love Princess and am an elite cruiser. Last year did the 2023 World Cruise on Island Princess. Looking forward to new vids.

Thank you for watching, fellow Canadian! I really appreciate your encouragement and support (and am very jealous of your world cruise). I do have a video about my time on Discovery Princess, so if you haven't watched that one yet, I think you may enjoy it :)

Thank you for a very thorough and informative video. From my point of view, service - customer service - was where Princess got it right. (I agree with you about Good Spirits at Sea.) The medallion was not as intuitive as they would like us to believe; I was continually being asked for my cabin number and my understanding was that medallion was supposed to eliminate that need. But that is a minor complaint at best. (It always worked for my cabin door.) I won't get more specific than that - I could extrapolate at length on what I liked and didn't - but suffice it to say the my 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise (Jan 2024) on Discovery Princess was excellent and I'm already booked for a 10-day cruise on Majestic Princess in November 2024.

Thank you so much for watching! I had a similar experience, being asked for my cabin number a few times, but they times they didn't ask for it I was very impressed! I hope you have a wonderful time on Majestic Princess!

There's so much to do! The entertainment is definitely top-notch, so I highly recommended watching 'Hiro' the Aquashow, 'Hairspray' and 'Flight' in the Main Theatre, and both of the ice skating shows in Studio B! The Flowrider is also my favourite sports deck activity ;)

Here looking at Discovery bc I’m deciding on a Mexican cruise next year. This is a really good ship review - thanks! So, I’ll admit to watching a few Love Boat episodes (available on the cabin TV) every time I cruise. It’s a tradition. Usually with a room service order that includes that really great chocolate cake they have. Though I’ve been known to do 2am runs to the International Cafe as well. I’ll share a Love Boat secret: every Valentines Day Princess captains perform a group marriage vow renewal in the piazza. It’s romantic and fun and they deliver a certificate to your cabin. And it’s complimentary. I timed our cruise this year to do it

I watched a few episodes of the Love Boat in my cabin this cruise too 😉 I’m excited to hear all about your vow renewal experience onboard! Thanks for watching!

There are differences in the class. Discovery has french restaurant and blue glass chandeliers. Regal has a fountain on the pool deck, no french restaurant etc. They may not be huge differences but they are there. Can't wait for my Sun Princess cruise! That ship will change Princess. So great to hear someone from your generation appreciate the Love Boat. I get teary eyed when the ships horns blow. Im sorry I didnt get to sail on any of the older ships, I still have a chance to sail Artainia, the ORIGINAL Royal Princess from 1984. So just a slight historical correction, Princess' Lobbies have grown from the original "front office and shops" of Island and Pacific Princess from the 70's and slowly grew with each class of ship introduced. The Atrium on Royal Princess was much bigger than the original ships and then it was kicked up a notch, ironically by the 3 Sitmar Ships Princess got in the purchase agreement in 1988. Star, Crown and Regal Princess' were about 68-70K tons nearly half the size of the current ships. they boasted a 3 deck atrium that incorporated for the first time the Patissierie and Coffee shop and a lovely wine bar, as well as shops, future cruise desk, tours and Front desk. From there, with each class it continued to grow. Sun Princess and her 3 sisters and then the very first Grand Class ship Grand Princess in 1998. She was the blue print for what has become the majority of their fleet.Star and Golden, (Now sailing as Pacific Adventure and Encounter) for P & O Australia, Sapphire, Diamond, Caribbean, Crown, Emerald, Ruby. Their plaza/atrium spaces are wonderful. a great central spot for Entertainment, drinks and snacks. I have not sailed yet on the Royal Class, but do want to try them. But I have heard wonderful things about the smallest two ships left in the fleet Coral and Island Princess. Btw I was just looking at the Discovery Princess' Deck plan, and there are a bunch of cabins that do indeed have seating areas, but they tend to be on deck 7 or 8 lower in the ship at certain points where the passageways move in slightly, if that is a perk you enjoy, the deck plans can assist you in picking cabins for your future guests if they want a seating area in addition to the balcony. Hope to run into you on a future cruise.. Keep up the great work!!!

Thank you so much for watching and your encouragement! I misspoke about the Piazza - I meant to say that the “Piazza” in its current iteration and with its current name was introduced on the current Crown Princess, but thank you for all of that ship history! I hope you do get the chance to sail aboard the original Royal Princess :) Hope to see you on board as well!

Loving your videos. Nice and informative and not too long. I've never been on a Cruise before. None of my friends are interested, but as the saying goes... Rather do it alone than not do it at all? Know of any good cruise lines to consider that are affordable for a solo cruiser. I'm based in Portugal, seems all the nice tester 3-night cruises depart from the USA.
@nickcruiseboy6 ай бұрын
Obrigado! While I haven’t sailed with them myself, MSC is an Italian cruise line and has many ships based in the Mediterranean. What’s great about them is that you can pretty much get on and off and any of their ports, so I do believe they will have some 3-4 night options from departure ports closer to Portugal. They are also very affordable so could be a good option for a solo traveler 😉 Hope that helps!

Symphony of the Seas is not a sister ship of Odyssey of the Seas. They both belong to a different class of ship. Symphony is an Oasis class ship while Odyssey is a Quantum class ship. If you actually sailed on both of these ships the differences between the two would be very obvious.
@nickcruiseboy8 ай бұрын
You are right in that they are of different classes! However, they are in the same fleet, hence why I called them sisters. But yes, they are VERY different and I would not argue differently :)
