@@CTP-bbq-HundHutte Thanks! It comes in super handy when moving over to cold crashing to avoid suckback since at that point I just swap the blowoff for a SodaStream canister to put 1-2 PSI on it.

Always a great feeling when you formulate a recipe and it is darn close to what you were aiming for. Great Job!! CaraPils will help with head retention and provide some body, start with 5% of grain bill.

I typically put carapils into nearly all my batches but was hoping with this one the white wheat might do that job, but yeah next time I'll throw that in the mix. My setup is similar to yours only that I add about 1 PSI to the FerMonster from my purged serving keg and slowly crash it 4° F every 12 hours until I reach 33° F. Cheers and thanks for the video!🍻

Interesting stuff. I do have the Tapcooler that I use from time to time for a few bottles here and there. The Tapcooler bleed valve has a hose you can add, so I'm always purging the bottles and excess foam thru that. I.e. purge and then pressurize the bottle so there is gas escaping thru that bleed valve hose... it does go to a waste container and usually has foam so it's easy to tell. But from there once I start filling the bottle, if a little foam is in the bottle, I can keep filling to push it out thru that hose. I can get a good fill and the mess is container. But things get better when you get the experience on the equipment. Cheers!

I suppose it partially does, but it's probably still less severe than opening the keg since it's in solution. I had that same thought when I was doing flavoring on a strawberry wheat beer with freeze-dried powder and took the approach of quickly dumping it in the purged keg. Difference is you can't just throw gelatin powder in so this is definitely a "least worst" approach as opposed to anything that's 100% pure.

Maybe I would have put the powder in a mini muslin bag and magnetized it to the keg. So I pressure ferment in the keg and then pull the magnet so it could drop and then cold crash it. Or maybe I would have just used a fancy syrup instead of powder.

Thanks for the suggestions! Since this is part of a group experiment where we're all trying different flavoring media and comparing the strawberry flavoring method was fixed, but interesting idea to treat it like dry hopping. I was a bit concerned how it might behave if I added it before packaging but in the unlikely event I use this stuff again I'll try adding it a different way at a different time. I'll do a tasting video before long to share my thoughts on the powder. :)

Wonder if you could have added before the cold crash, when you had a few gravity points to go, to the fermenter to scrub any O2. Then again, I think there is still some yeast in there, and hope it scrubs the keg anyways.

Yep good point -- I was really on the fence about when best to add it. The powder is supposedly zero sugar but I was concerned about any of it getting fermented and potentially turning into weird flavors, but maybe that wouldn't happen with this stuff. Definitely would have been a more opportune time from the standpoint of introducing oxygen -- something to try next time!

Good to see the process! The Smack Packs are very much a thing for Wyeast, but White Labs, Imperial, etc. have never used them. White labs claims to have great viability, without it. But I've had great results with/without smack packs! Cheers!

Looks like a nice value! I had the previous 3 roller mill morebeer used to sell a couple years ago.. what they called the MM3... I had a horrible experience with that one. This looks like a big improvement with the geared rollers, the base included, the fingerguard, etc.

Yep, I like it! I probably should have let my frustrations with the poor instructions and incorrect photos online subside before recording anything, but I really do like it. It seems to be very well made, the roller operation is super smooth, it's really stable sitting on a grain bucket, and the adjustment process is really easy. My first batch of BIAB with it came out a bit high on the gravity so I may back off the grind a bit or might just squeeze the bag less hard.

I actually do this same exact thing but straight into the fermenter (I use a modified Fermonster as well). I like having the clearest beer possible in the keg so I can move it around without stirring up sediment if needed. Cheers and enjoy the long weekend!

One interesting thing I’ve been wanting to try is purging the starsan from the keg with captured co2 from active fermentation. Same drilled gas post set up but instead of connecting tube to a cup of star San for an airlock, you connect to gas post on keg and a picnic tap left open on the liquid side. It’ll take awhile but should push out in a day or so

That'd be interesting to try! I've seen a lot of videos where people's primary goal is to capture and reuse the CO2 created during fermentation, which is cool. The way I did both this and the cold crashing, for better or worse, has zero regard for conserving that generated CO2. :)

If you install a keg ball lock-compatible post, you can run a keg (CM Becker) quick disconnect attached to a hose, leading to a jar of StarSan. Blowoff tube accomplished. I'm not expert enough to know if the krausen will clog the ball lock, though.

Yep! Exactly what I did. I didn't have an issue with the krausen getting high enough to go into the ball lock; fingers crossed for future batches! I'm releasing a video with more details of fermenting my first batch in this setup as well as transferring from the fermenter to a keg in the next couple of days. Cheers!

Nicely done. I'd suggest using a Forstner bit instead of the twist bit. They have a nice center point that will stay centered, and the circumference cutters will give you a clean cut. If you start the hole on the *inside* of the lid, with the top of the lid pressing against a sacrificial surface (scrap plywood will do), there will be less "blowout" (the shredded plastic that you need to clean up). It's a similar issue when doing woodworking drilling. Forstners are not too expensive; best brand AFAIC is Freud.

One of the two lids I drilled came out _very_ slightly crooked (not to the point of it being a leak problem, but still), so I'm going to redo a couple of lids and add a second hole for a floating dip tube to up my closed game even further. Appreciate the suggestion!

FYI they sell springs so you dont have to close it manually. Especially nice if you're bringing the tap with you to places where people are not used to pouring from faucets.

Super helpful, thank you. That’s a good point about the potential high krausen blow off. I was thinking spunding valve was the solution but wasnt sure if there was going to be enough headspace. So I think the make shift QD blow off is key here

I also have a gas disconnect going in only mine is on the right hand side. I didn't want to risk crushing the thing and having gas leaking out.

Having used both, and if the price difference isn't an issue, I'd definitely go with the Nukatap. The Picnic Tap 2.1 isn't bad, but in my estimation the Nukatap has better build quality and works better overall.
