I got this at the time, because it reminded me of Allred art in weird way. Of course Mike being the writer didn’t hurt either.

I had completely forgotten about this comic. Thanks for taking a look and sharing some commentary, it was super insightful. There is a color version of it in Madman Library Edition Vol. 5. It looks really cool too, kind of like the cover.

Weird choice to publish this book on glossy paper.

This one looks great. I love comics that are set in WWI. I have a great collection of comics and graphic novels that are set during the WWI era. In the period 2014 - 2018 there were loads and loads published out here in Europe. My wallet couldn't keep up with it, regrettably. Some graphic novels are now hard to come by and I regret not buying them. But new graphic novels are expensive out here (most of them, anyway).

I dig the direction of the Channel, informative and interesting. please please please shoot in in 1080 or 4k... the visual aspect of the video is super important
@HobbyistFreePress8 күн бұрын
@@arivel09 Thank you. I actually film in 4 K, but for reasons I haven’t been able to solve yet, the video gets compressed to 720 somewhere in the editing and/or uploading process. I am still trying to figure it out as I go.

Got this one some years back also a second hand book. Pretty good stuff by Wolverton, but definitely the IIWW stories are weaker

I love CC Beck's art, it's very expressive albeit seemingly simple. There's a great interview of Beck with Will Eisner as part of his Shop Talk, the audio can be found on the Internet Archive. I had never notice the creatures in the foreground in the cave, what a great detail! I hope we'll see more Captain Marvel content, especially golden age pieces, on your channel. I love your videos.

Thanks so much for the kind words. There will definitely be more Captain Marvel content on the channel in the future.

Howard the Duck’s first quack would be a great name for a movie or a miniseries

IDW released artist's edition of Wallace Wood, Jack Davis, Reed Crandall and Ghastly. They also released an "Artisan edition" of "The Best of EC Stories Artisan Edition", a softcover volume more affordable for readers. AND last month an Artisan edition for "EC covers". Both book's are still available.

Thats Awesome! I’ll definitely have to hunt down some of those.

"Howard the Duck" is a character and comic book that shows how anything can be serious and funny if handled by the most brilliant writers. It worked because Steve Gerber was aware of his craziness, rather than just writing something that was crazy. It was too "daft" not to become popular with a discerning audience that liked weird humour in more orthodox comic books, but wasn't commercial enough to appeal to a large comic book audience, so it had to be altered. I never read the magazine.
@HobbyistFreePress14 күн бұрын
Definitely. One reason Gerber is a favorite of mine is that he can take the most off-the-wall concepts and make them work.

Love "caveman" themed material. Have a couple of the 70s DC Tor. Maybe Dell/Gold Keys Turok was inspired by Joe' s 1950s St John series? Joe's Tor/Sgt Rock/ Tarzan share similarities especially their " been there " features. Love "caveman" themed material!

With the Nixed Men, Erik is making fun of John Byrne (Johnny Redbeard) and the books that worked on. The group name is a play on Byrne's Next Men and the characters are analogues: Sensation (Sensational She-Hulk), Sub-Human (Namor, the Submariner), Super-X (Superman), Fade (Sue Storm, the Invisible Girl/Woman), and Lightning Bug (Storm).

🎯🎯🎯🎯 Along with The Heap ( post war and 50s era ) Briefer's Franky ( humor and 50s horror ) is at the top of my list of can't resist reading material. I have a Dick Briefer book that's part of a series on top GA creators. I got hooked on Briefer's Franky through reprints and I've gone on Comic Book Plus 's website to read more issues. When names like Kirby , Eisner , etc are honored Briefer and Ernest Schroeder ( The Heap) IMO deserve overdue inclusion. The entertainment level both characters possess , for me , is 100% . ENJOYED your presentation.

I’ve never read much Blackhawk but I feel like I hear about him in passing a lot while reading DC comics
@HobbyistFreePressАй бұрын
Blackhawk really hasn’t been doing much in DC You that than occasional cameos. I think there were a few attempts at a character revival but they never came close to the Golden Age run. Chaikin was the last to really do anything interesting with the character IMO
