Always used dyed Guinea Fowl, much easier than Jay and easier to obtain. Tried Partridge dyed but too soft and collapses easily.

@@WeeManSham all anglers are well spaced out but I would have preferred him to step out when I was waving so I could have let that fish run as opposed to fighting it on the lip of pool leaving the point fly dangling. Don't think it was intentional, he just didn't know the craic I think 👍

Never fished a tube on the surface but the idea really interests me! What style of pattern were you using? Were you fishing this as the subsurface fly seemed to be less productive, or was this simply to change things up?
