My father was Capper Haddleton, a Warwick Arms regular, he helped to organise and raise money for the locals kids to have a day out at the seaside( many of them had never seen the sea). He also organised Christmas party for the kids, each getting a gift with their name on it from Father Christmas. For the old folk a Christmas Dinner with some of the local Teddy Boys in white shirt and black bow tie waiting on tables.

Back in 1963 when i was 5 years old we stayed for a few months and i had to attend the local school on Grace rd. My aunt passed away in 1995 and i have not been since as i live in Sheffield, thanks for bringing back such happy memories.

used to play around here as a kid in the 1950's but look at it now !. Ive been lucky enough to visit India and Pakistan on several trekking holidays, and its just as if i am transported back there now, the only thing missing are sacred cows wondering freely on the stratford road....but given time i'm sure that will happen. What an absolute GROT hole of a place now, so pleased we had to move.

So were the places you visited on holiday grotholes too? Actually if you walk a few yards in from the main roads the houses look exactly as they used to except you will find kids playing cricket and riding bike, instead of the games they used to play in the past. If you really understood anything about the places you visited then you would realise that sacred cows are not a feature for the people who live on and around the Stratford Road. There are other surprising things to learn too, like some of the best cakes in the city are made and sold from shops on that self same road.

Music locate yes, but there are still racist black ppl who hate the Muslims and Pakistanis, remember the 2005 riots? Anyway, the poor ppl are not racist, only the rich ppl. Regardless of colour any one can be rich, anyone can be poor. That is the main divide, there are poor areas, there are posh areas. The poor ppl vote labour, the rich ppl vote Tory. It’s not white vs black, it’s not black vs asians, it’s rich vs poor. Always has been. And ppl think that white ppl are automatically rich, if u go to Liverpool or Manchester or Birmingham you’ll realise that’s not true at all, Birmingham has ALWAYS been a complete DUMP. I was born in this area and remember when the first 'coloured men' came to live here, then after the so-called 'slum clearances' of the mid to late 60's when everyone was packed off to tower blocks at Chelsmley Wood the rot set in - and then it got worse. Now it is a Pakistani enclave. When I was there in the late 50's early 60's there were hardly any Pakistanis but now it has done a complete 360...there's hardly any white people there now. It should never have been allowed to happen (imho).
@LadyGds5 жыл бұрын
I hope you're still alive to read this, Felix. Nevertheless, I have to say I agree with you; even though, I myself am a descendent of one of those 'coloured men' you speak of. I agree with you on the basis that every man deserves to have somewhere to call their own, without the threat of that being taken away from them; not then, not now, not ever. Unfortunately for us 'coloured men', our country got invaded a long time ago; thanks to colonialism. Now all of us suffer!

You have to realise when Pakistan, Somalia and Arab people first came over they were thrown rocks at and had all the racism shot at them and now that sparkbrook isn't majority white what do you think they would do ? It's honestly white people's fault for attacking people based on culture and then them people who were attacked spoke to their kids about it too.
