I cooked with these for the first time this weekend. Made a LOT of ash and had a chemical/lighter fluid smell. Will skip next time.

Citrusafe's main ingredient d-limonene is used in food manufacturing but some of the other ingredients are not safe to eat. It only needs to wiped off with a wet towel. If it were more toxic, it would need to be thoroughly washed off with a hose. It really cleans the grease off the grill grate with the scrub pad and the wet towel. Try it sometime. I bet you'll like it.

Do you recommend anything to shine up the weber kettle lids? I've used car wax before but wasn't sure if that was the best thing to use, maybe because of the heat didn't seem to last long
@BbqMikeG
@BbqMikeG Ай бұрын
I don't use wax because it may cloud up when it gets hot. I use Dawn dishwashing soap on a wet rag to get the grease off. Sadly most of my kettles suffered from a house painters overspray that bespeckled the lids a bit. I do wonder what clay-bar might do for the shine? Thanks for watching the video!

Wouldn’t hanging them cause the juice to run down and the ribs to be dry?
@BbqMikeG
@BbqMikeG Ай бұрын
Hi Monique, I usually hang them for 90 minutes to get smoke on them and then wrap them for another 60-90 minutes with a splash of Coke as a braising liquid, then finish them off on the top rack. Hanging them gets a lot of vertically moving smoke on both sides of the ribs even better than smoking them flat in the Weber Smokey Mountain. An offset smoker gives better horizontal smoke than the WSM so going vertical with the smoke even outs the smoke on both sides. I really like cooking ribs this way! Thanks for watching the video!

Lava Lock is better for high temperatures, but the fire black gets the same job done for regular kettle usage. If smoking meat on the kettle is your goal, either one will work fine at 250 f temps. It's great that they give you enough gasket to do 2 kettles! It's a great value no matter which one you get!

It’s just another way to smoke ribs. They taste good and cook quicker. Wrapping ribs after 2 hours makes them more tender but the texture of hanging ribs has a rotisserie style bark. I have an 18” hinged cooking grate for you if you want to try this. It is a fun way to cook ribs. Your ribs are frigging good Donny!

Thanks for posting your results! I bought & used a bag of these super sized briquettes & thought it was something I was doing wrong. I had a difficult time getting them to light using the same technique I used lighting up the Kingsford briquettes.
@BbqMikeG
@BbqMikeG 10 ай бұрын
They work if you work them. I use them for quick cooks like chicken, but only because I bought a few bags. One thing that interests me is how the ashes stay on top of the coal grate. It might be useful if a barbecue gets choked out from too much ash falling down.

That S&S snake works great for smoking briskets for 10 or more hours. When you wrap, push all the remaining coals to one side and fill the basket back up. Then the snake will burn back the other way to finish the cook!

They do work for temperature. I wonder how much of the smoke is steam. I’ve been using them for hot and fast cooking so I get my value out of what I already purchased. The are a bit odd and I wished Royal Oak made them out of more hardwood with less smokey additives.
