This Scottish policy is flawed and a wasted opportunity, because it limits huts and renovations to 30m2. But there are thousands of ruined stone blackouses across the highlands which are typically 35m2. Which are therefore too small to become houses, but are too big to be restored for recreational or intermittent use. I made a submission to the consulation, and said please make an exception for existing black houses ruins which are >40m2 but this fell on deaf ears.

Good information. Yes, it is difficult to be recognised when you move into the countryside at first. But another bit of help, when you move into the countryside, find the nearest post office and introduce yourself and bring ID and any other documents and leave them copies. Go to your nearest neighbours and do the same. Local delivery companies/trades/builders etc. Put signs up on the road with Council permission if necessary. I went from 0 solar knowledge to now, the all in one was a good option for a diy newbie, aside from the 16 batteries 15 connections to the inverter +6 for the pv fuses, luckily, I had a brilliant solar dealer, cold weather Pb C batteries 11kw charge rate, next week 2kw with the sun behind the mountain at 6pm. Check out CS battery, Lead carbon can be run down to 0%, safer than vented lead acid no balancing, bmbs or temp sensors, 1 cycle per 3 days over 16 yrs life left on mine. Massachusetts had 58 lithium fire deaths in 2023, Even LiPO4 can transform into a volcano. If your battery has a built-in fire extinguisher it is not safe. I had one or 2 tell me high frequency inverters fry your electronics, mmm I couldn't find a single video or article for that so I ordered a backup inverter for next year, I had to swap a bad firmware inverter took 12mins. I heard the new Amen Solar really all in one has some good features, they added LP standard, dc breaker, ac breakers, and pv breakers. Maybe with 30k subs they might give you one free with a review.

@livingoffgridinscotland
@livingoffgridinscotland 12 күн бұрын
As someone who works in the property industry and deals with damp, condensation and mould on a daily basis, rising damp or capillary action is very rare indeed, most damp is wrongly diagnosed and is due to roof/gutter issues, drainage issues, plumbing leaks, bridging of various kinds (concrete floors retrofitted into old houses, cavity wall insulation, debris in cavities, plaster touching a concrete floor etc etc) or the incorrect use of gypsum plasters in older buildings. I’ve not seen the need to inject a chemical DPC for over 10 years and solved every damp issue I’ve come across by diagnosing the cause correctly and doing proper remedial work rather than instructing a “Wally damp man” 😂

Just did the hard math, every 3.5m down from your your 57Degrees solar pannels on the 15degrees roof facing south would give you a 1 in 5 shadow length, if that roof is 7m in width you can have 3 rows of 1m high for the december sun for a few hours, lowering the first row by a few degrees and second row a few more will decrease the shadow length, giveing you you longer production but less power, you can by single axis actuators controllers with wind safe modes, the actuators are tall so i was going to put a 12v scissor car jack underneth which would lie the pannels flat to the roof for the summer months.

Top of that hill sounds like where youll get all the power youll ever need, from your solar pannels in winter wind and hydro (half cells pannels). Hydro from your driveway gullys roof gullys down over the side, if high enough, would need a sot catch, 10m head needed. Wind turbines, more is better, idealy 3 in a 30+meter triangle for gusty days, while ones spooling up in 67mph anothers in 25mph straightening out charge curve, istabreeze 700w,1000w.
