Hi. Sorry for the late reply as we didn't see the notification for this. Ventilation is critical in this aspect to stop any overheating near combustible areas. Also, for first floors, designers tend to create a column wall around the pipe for safety reasons, so any noise from below isn't heard

Michael, where do I put the vermiculite - on top of the closure plate? If so, to what depth? Or do I just pour a LOT of it down the outside of the liner from the chimney top? Thanks.

First you need to ensure that the base is well sealed with a neatly cut steel plate so the vermiculite doesn't pour onto the floor, then head up top to the chimney top and I normally cut a hole out of the base of a large bucket of plastic tub. The hole will be slightly bigger than your new steel flue liner but not larger than the old flue. Then tape the top of the new liner and pour the vermiculite into the tub. That will guide the vermiculite into the gap between your new steel liner and the old flue. It could take a few bags in large chimneys

Hi. You should be able to retrofit an insert. A standard stove is freestanding under the chimney breast, so if the insert stove is fixed correctly then why not? :)

Hi. Sorry for the delay in replying, the main reason is that the heat from the top of the stove / furnace is too much and would melt or damage the flexible liner. For this reason, you always have a starting pipe and adaptor which is rigid.

Hi. According to our Installation Instructions: "The connection to the appliance should be made using fire cement/rope or high temperature sealant to ensure a positive seal. Where TecnoFlex Plus is to be fitted to the top of an open fire place, a Schiedel Rite-Vent gather unit should be fitted into the throat of the chimney connected to the TecnoFlex Plus and sealed off. When connecting Triplelock flex to a Schiedel Rite-Vent flue box, the flexible liner simply pushes directly on to the fast fix spigot. No sealant is required. When making a connection to a fluepipe in another product type, such as rigid stainless steel single or double wall or vitreous enamel, then the appropriate Schiedel approved connector to/from flexible should be used. The connector should be suitably sealed to the appliance spigot ensuring a gas tight joint." Hi. Sorry for the late reply. It's preferable for an angle due to the draw, like you mentioned, but in our Installation Guide, on Page 6, you can see some examples at 90 degrees.
