I found out from watching a recent Carl Lewis video, that Denis knew he'd false started and that's why he kind of hesitated a little pondering whether he'd got away with it or not, haha.

I was a sports mad teen in the Western Isles and watched this era obsessively. Regis was a gamble that payed off. Roger Black and Derek Redmond had fantastic memorable careers considering the injuries they both endured. And as for Kris, awesome and what a laugh.

This was a truly great team with brilliant tactics. The Americans got absolutely decimated by the Brits. They just couldn’t live with them.

Absolutely historic. Two of history's greatest athletes duelling as one approaches the twilight of his career and his successor rises to take his throne.

It was terrible conditions and he completed showboated at the end yet he still ran a 45.35 at 16; if he actually focused on the 400m throughout his career I could've seen him going sub 43 or at least racking up a few gold medals

I wonder how many people really know why Ovett lost the race? I think the whole Irish team know. He thought it was going to be an easy win so decided to stay up late on the eve of the final..... with the Irish team who were celebrating something, anyone know what?

Going into the Olympics, Coe held the world record in the 800m and Ovett had the world record in the 1500m. So of course Ovett won the 800 and Coe won the 1500 😆

I’m part of the millenial generation that grew up with alan webb and bernard lagat, and am now loving the era of jakob and kerr - but, good lord, the 80s era of coe ovett and cram was so epic!!! incredibly inspiring era of track history fully of legends and great personalities
