I love the way the windows and doors add light, but I would feel like I was living in a fishbowl and always on display. It would really creep me out!

the inside seems very bland, and cold. it needs color on the walls; art work; throw rugs on the floor to make it feel warmer.

It seems the camera angles are chosen to avoid showing the equally ugly houses next door. It's a matter of taste but I think the house itself looks better, but the extension is now the eyesore.

The only thing that bugs me are the vertical wood pieces framing the windows. They stick out as compared to the wood just inside the window. OCD? Probably.

I'm curious about what the architects from the 1970s have said about this house and what they will say about it in 50 years. Somehow, I feel it's gonna be always the same.

But now they have no garage. Where will they store all the outdoor equipment/bikes etc that come with two kids? The lawn mower will go where? And they went over budget by more than 30k and no bathroom redo. Sorry, it's beautiful but not very practical or functional for an active young family of four. Where is the washer and dryer? No improvements to the garden and credit cards are maxed out.

Maybe its a British thing but this obsession with upper and lower facades being two-tone seems dated already.

I don't understand, the house is already huge, and they want to make it bigger! What is wrong with architects.

The more episodes I watch, this show is so cringey to watch. The homeowners look bullied when having to accept the designs. So the goal is to take these “ugly” houses🙄 and turn them into black boxes.

The inside looks & feels cold and sparse. I guess that's what happens when you go into debt over an ugly extension, no money left to decorate or furnish.

If like to see what that wood looks like when it weathers (unevenly) and the strips try to warp. Need to replace a few wood pieces that split or cracked? They'll never match the adjacent pieces.

With the extra thousands of years that England has been in play versus US must be why they’re so good at guttering a house. Because in America they run the rooflines away and down instead of up and toward

Glass technology is also important because glass brings light as well as heat. This was a lesson learned when we first lived in a house with large windows. So, technology in glass to manage heat is essential as much as attention to the light it brings into the structure.

How comfortable do you think the extension was during the drastic heat waves which will only become more frequent in coming years 🥵

Watching this program with the Ukraine crisis in mind, Im often wondering how all these people building big glassy extensions, are going to fare this winter as huge utility bills are looming

Love the extension. Some are saying it wasn't necessary, and of course it wasn't. It makes it special. It makes it dramatic. It's not ridiculous. Not everything needs to be practical. I do think it was a missed opportunity to not have the picture window in the living room be a sliding door, with steps down to the backyard. That said, the picture window IS gorgeous!

I am a designer of homes, structures, decorative arts and people. In my eyes, heart and soul, nothing unattractive exists. They all haven’t had the opportunity or the right circumstances to shine. I am an architectural and makeup designer mostly. I love what I do and when anyone chooses to see beauty, all possibilities will follow. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Wood bees and wasp will love it especially when it starts to decay in a year and turn grey. Architect loves to play on paper but truly lacks what maintance free, to a young couple means. Will need another$60,000 to fix the outside when it all starts rotting. As builders, we would have never let a client put this raw wood on a home. What a shame.

This radical re-envisioning of the bland domestic architecture that blights the beautiful landscape gave me hope. The design is bold, courageous, inspiring and responsive to the environment. What a great gift to this visionary family, from a gifted architect and set of construction experts. Thank you for showing us the possibility of greatness.

All the timber should have been pre-cut and assembled in a large warehouse. Disassembled and labelled and put on a truck, craned into place in pre-fab insulated walls onsite. Their neighbours sound a bit catty and jealous. The home is brilliant and so inventive, and practical.
