Get thee to Eureka to see the real Nevada, travel from there up to Carlin, a little further north to the Newmont gold mine, that's the real Nevada, largest gold producer in the world.

As a tourist I love Nevada. I go there once a year and I don't go there for the casinos or shows. I go for the great outdoors, hiking, biking and kayaking.

Born and raised in AK, I like that you clarified the "backcountry", but I should say, quite honestly, it's anywhere in Alaska. The backcountry no one is going to hear you scream, but sadly, it's more devious in the cities. I left a couple decades ago and it's only gotten worse, especially around the Anchorage area. One thing someone told me a long time ago about AK has always stuck with me "People come up here to get away from their past", and the more you look around, the more you realize it's true. There's a huge transient job community (fisherman, mainly) and Alaska is remote. You can earn money and just get away. The problem lies in the fact that these are questionable people to begin with and now you just threw a couple wrenches in the plan - there are very few women, it's miserable weather and boring. Well, then it probably wouldn't surprise you that people get into a lot of trouble when they're bored and the only activity is drinking or doing drugs, huh? My advice? Travel to AK in a group, then leave. It's boring after 3 weeks, anyway.

I actually disagree about Maldives. I was there as a female, single traveler and had a great time, the beaches really do look like the post cards. In saying that it depends on why you want to go. The resort catered a lot to snorkelers and divers, so if that's not what you want to spend all day doing, you'd probably get bored fast. I felt secure and there weren't many honemooners on the island that I noticed but I did go off peak and it wasn't a super high end luxurious resort by Maldives standards (although it was very nice). In saying that there also weren't a lot of people traveling solo, and very little to do after dark/apart from being in the ocean, but I still met a few people while I was there when out on the boats. I have heard mixed things from women traveling to the local islands. Some have a great time, some seem to have run into issues especially if not traveling with men. It's important for people to remember it's a conservative muslim country so you need to be careful how you dress in particular.

I think all countries have good and bad. My daughter worked in Japan for a couple of years and hearing forever how safe it was, I was at ease with her going. Terrible things happened to her there. She was groped on the train, stalked by a man on the train and she was also assaulted there. And then there are the natural disasters. There was a tsunami, flooding, an earthquake, a tornado, a volcanic eruption all within a day. I was very happy when she left there. Not to mention the work culture is crazy.

Hey there, Argentinian here. I’m very sorry about what happened to you in Chile. It happened to us Hispanic women as well but it’s more frequent for non-Spanish speaking women. Their harassment culture is DISGUSTING. Machismo is everywhere. Just know that not all Latam countries are like that (shutout to Argentina and Uruguay). Hope you’re willing to come back 🫶🏻

I think if you are looking for a high-end vacation, great accommodation, great food, great service and maybe lounge by the pool, try your hand at the slots, shop or see a show Vegas is excellent and I highly recommend. If you are looking to meet locals and party, i wouldn't recommend travelling on your own. Also recommend staying at a top end hotel. I have heard crime is up in even some of the better (not top end) hotels where they now have security at the elevators to rooms and must show your key card. Also heard that the SkyTrain stations are a no no at night.

Japan yes, definitely one of the more beginner friendly destinations for solo travelers. Have you travelled to India and if so, would you put it as a recommended place for solo travel or the opposite? lol
