Hi Jack, good video, thank you. I was just looking at purchasing a Revopoint for doing some scanning on a vintage motocross bike I'm building. Now this video has given me some more thought. Assuming I'm using an Android Pixel 7 phone, would Kiri be able to scan a fuel tank for reverse engineering and also printing for an electric conversion to the bike? I would like to get some accurate dimensions for various fixing/mounting points. Would the file need to be transferred to different software. If so, I'd be looking at something intuitive, as this is all new tech to myself. With regards to costs and upgrades, is there a 1 off fee or is it pay per scan if I was looking at more features as a hobby user. On a side note for your business model, I like to pay for Pro level Apps at the point of purchase, with no re-newable license fee. However, still happy to pay for upgrades if needed. Thank you in advance for any answers and advice. Regards, Dale

Hey Dale! Thank you so much for the comment! I'm glad that my video provided some extra info for your decision :) Great questions, let's answer them: 1. The ability to scan a fuel tank for reverse engineering: The answer is yes! However, to make an accurate scan with the KIRI Engine, you need to prepare the tank before photo-scanning it. You can buy a scanner spray that can make the surface less reflective, then use some baby power (or chalk power or anything that you can put on the top to increase feature points). Once you've done that preparation, you are ready to make super accurate 3D scans with just your Pixel 7. 2. Measurement: Although the relativity is all there, there is no real-world scale straight out of photo scanning. But it's not an issue, you can manually scale the model to real-world size in other 3D software such as Fusion360, here is a video on KZfaq that teaches you how to scale a photo-scanned model: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/l96Ug6yUm6zVgYk.htmlsi=Mx1LyUH_J_ELMgH_&t=316 3. Pricing: Unfortunately, KIRI Engine doesn't have one-off purchase plan. The reason for that is KIRI Engine uses servers on the cloud for processing 3D scans, it's financially not feasible to just charge once but the server cost is being accumulated. However, having said that. I'm almost certain that you can achieve accurate 3D scanning of your bike's fuel tank without having to become a paid user, our free features should be sufficient for your need. Just remember to prepare the object before going for a photo scanning; If you did need a paid plan, although it doesn't have a one-off purchase option, you can actually become a subbed user for a month for only 15USD, then cancel it whenever you finished the project, this way it's much cheaper and efficient than buying a physical 3D scanner :) Let me know if you have any other questions, happy to answer more :)

Hey~ Yes, you can :) In KIRI Engine, you can actually export the 3D model in STL format, which is perfect for 3D printing! But I do wanna point out that when scanning a person, because the person would be moving slightly, KIRI Engine can be hard to use to scan not-stationary objects. But feel free to try it out :)

Nice video! Have you reviewed Canvas or other scanners specifically made for scanning architecture? - I am an architect and interested in Polycam and Canvas and other scanners that scan to CAD and BIM and Pointcloud. Also the Polycam feature of creating the walls and furniture is really nice. I have not checked if there are other apps like Canvas and Polycam that scan to BIM. Holy heck, this is such a good video and about as unbiased as you can get considering it's from the founder and CEO of KIRI Engine. KIRI Engine looks phenomenal and I'm excited to play around with it a lot more. I'm a but upset I gave away my iPad Pro with LIDAR to a friend who needed something for college a while back so I can't use the LIDAR enhanced meshing, but the other features seem to make up for it in other ways. I used the same images to make the photogrammetry scan and as i have already worked with it in past, so it came out perfectly. To test the scaling (how distorted it was with your apps scan) I aligned both scans in blender, and designed parts according it it and 3d printed and tested. It's kind of hard to scan a clean car body because of its shiny surfaces. But if you are looking at the mounting locations, I assume it's either a kind of dirty/rusting car or parts of a car? If so, KIRI Engine is up for the challenge. And yes, you can apply the measurement to the set point in software like fusion 360 afterward. And also, since you have an iPhone with LiDAR, also try our Object Capture under LiDAR Scan option, it will get you some clean results too :)

@@LoboOutdoor Unfortunately, I don't that specific tutorial video :( Scanning the transparent and reflective jar can be pretty challenging especially if you also want the bottom of it. You will definitely need the Featureless Object Scan in KIRI Engine, but if you just put on a surface, you won't be able to capture the bottom because unlike Photo Scan mode, for Featureless Object Scan you can't just flip the object during the scanning. So I would say, if you really want the jar with bottom included, you can try to hang the jar in the air so this way you can shoot a continuous video all around the jar including the bottom without moving it in the Featureless Object Scan mode. I always wondered why don't such apps as Kiri use ToF sensors found in phones. Pretty sure it could result in somewhat accurate dimensions. Maybe you can shed some light on that. Those sensors are used for measuring of room size, for instance. In conjunction with phone's gyroscope I believe the estimation could be done really well. I also adore Kiri for free exports and consider getting paid option when I'll be scanning a lot of things.
@jackisbuildingkiri2997
@jackisbuildingkiri2997 2 ай бұрын
Hey Joe! That's a great question! The short answer is that the ToF or LiDAR sensors on our phones aren't accurate enough to be usable in 3D scanning. It's true that ToF sensors can give instant measurements of the object they're pointing at, but the accuracy is usually in the 1mm-5mm range. Imagine a 3D-scanned surface with 5mm-deep bumpiness all over it. It would be more terrible than even the cheapest 3D scanner you can find. For that reason, ToF or LiDAR data is rarely used in actual 3D scanning techniques for object reconstruction. But you'd see many use cases in which people use ToF sensors to measure rooms, right? That's also because, in a large-scale environment like a room interior, accuracy isn't that critical. You'll be okay if the measurement is 5mm off for your room, right? So that's why it's good for room, but not good for object reconstruction

And instead of just 3D reconstructing a radiance field that is barely usable in other 3D software, we used a new approach called Neural Surface Reconstruction, which inherits the best parts of NeRF, the capability to 3D scan shiny and transparent objects (aka Featureless Object), and on the top it can even generate good mesh!

Really? I tried Kiri and it still hasn’t made it in my top3 scanning app yet, please enlighten me on what I am doing wrong?

@@ericchen7026 🤷‍♂️ None of them work well enough to use for detailed needs in my estimation but for creating digital assets it works as well as anything else in my estimation.

How small of an object would Kiri be able to scan? Say maybe something as small as a 3cm needle?
@jackisbuildingkiri2997
@jackisbuildingkiri2997 2 ай бұрын
Hey Bushra, thanks for your question! It actually depends on if you can use a zoom camera to capture enough details of an object even if it's 3cm small. If you want to capture something tiny, the best chance is to use a telescope camera to capture the details of it and use the upload from local option in KIRI Engine to upload those photos

Hey bro, are you still getting crash issue? Which system version are you at? is that 17.4 or later?

Don't use LIDAR. It does not increase detail in the scan.

What android phone would you recommend to get the most out of Kiri? I understood Apple has lidar sensors and this helps a lot with the results, any options in Android?

Hey David! Thanks for the question! Like I replied in the other comment, believe it or not, Apple's LiDAR isn't necessarily helping with the results but more with the user feedback, so whatever you can get from Object Capture in KIRI Engine, you can almost always get it in greater detail with the Photo Scan in KIRI. And for Android recommendation, as far as it has a great camera, it will get the same result as from an iPhone, so any latest Android phones with good cameras should be good for your choice :)

IMHO It' absolutely appropriate for you to make this kind of video. It's wonderful that you try to be fair when comparing your products to "competitors". The ONLY issue with your other video was that you didn't disclose that Kiri is your product.

Hey man! Thanks for the question :) Yeah, I confess I was being cheeky in my previous video comparing the 3D scanning apps, that's why I added my background disclaimer in this video to avoid misunderstanding haha. And honestly, I don't really see a $600 3D scanner as our competitor because as I indicated in this video, they are really designed for different use cases :) If you are looking to get best texture quality for game design or VFX, doesn't matter how expensive a 3D scanner hardware is, photogrammetry will always win; But if you are looking to using the 3D model for measurement and reverse engineering, never use photogrammetry, buy a 3D scanner :)

I want to scan people’s faces for 3d printing. Will this work for me or should I buy the $1500 dollar scanners. And if it works, what IPhone is the best?
@jackisbuildingkiri2997
@jackisbuildingkiri2997 2 ай бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the question :) That actually depends on what you want to use with your face scan. If you are looking to use the face scan for 3D printing, then yes, you'd need a 3D scanner like Revopoint or better; But if you looking to use the face scan for game development or VFX, actually KIRI Engine + Unreal's Mesh to Metahuman would be better alternative for better texture and rig control. And if you are with the latter use case, You don't have to have an iPhone, both Android and iPhone work equally the same for face scan and with the mesh you can use it in Unreal-s mesh to metahuman

I enjoyed the video. It could be what I'm looking for. Will it scan things like an indicator or light on a car? If I wanted to replace it with a 'custom' light I would need to scan the hole left behind after it is removed. What about parts of a panel on a car? Keep up the good work. I love the enthusiasm 👍

Thank you so much for the question! For the car parts scan, I'd recommend the Revopoint 3D scanner over the KIRI engine due to its real-world accuracy. But keep in mind, you do need a scanning spray to paint over the car part if the part you are trying to scan is reflective or dark
