Without a filter, my unit can take in 3400 CFM. With a pleated MERV 5 3M Basic, that drops to 1800 CFM. Yikes. Hence I'm thinking about switching to the cheap Merv 4 fiberglass ones. All I want to do is protect the evaporator coils and blower. Merv 4 fiberglass isn't enough to protect my equipment?

Why is the filter concave on the opposite side? The wall grill pushes into the flat part. It makes more sense to install it where the wall grill fits easily

Given that some HVAC installers discourage pleated filters due to adding more stress to the air handler, are there "high flow" pleated filters that offer say 30 or 60 day filtering without stressing the air handler/compressor or is the whole "stress/no-pleated-filter" thing just a way to skew your HVAC warranty? I was a little disappointed some of the app features aren't supported (maybe because this is an older model). Note for anyone buying this that the feature in the app to monitor power usage won't show up, because it isn't supported, but will be there for certain Midea AC's. Other than a few of the features in the app missing, everything else went smoothly. I had picked up an additional thing of sticky insulation for the window, but everything else was included in the box.

BUT THERE ARE NO ARROWS on my metal, washable filters and no one seems to understand this is possible. I can't believe there is an entire video ONLY explaining how to insert a filter WITH ARROWS! lol. The problem is: When there are no arrows, PLEASE tell a person who may not be very "air filter" savvy how to determine which side goes where in that situation. No Arrows present on the filter at all.. What to do then? (I can't stay and read all the comments so my apologies if someone says this and you've responded already - there's nothing mentioned close at least.). :)

Im confused we have a floor air flow thing that sucks in the air and my husband says the arrows point towards the vent facing in but it seems like the filter is almost being sucked in to the point it may rip away. It has some paper cut outs on one side n i think it should go facing down. Whats the proper way?

After watching at least 5 videos on replacing these damn filters. I have learned the arrow should point away from you. I have a ceiling intake. The air is sucked in thru the grill, which can be seen by holding a plastic bag at that closed grill. The air sucks the bag to the closed grill. So remove your old filter. Take that new one with arrows pointed up away from you. It should fit secure if you bought the correct size. Close the grill, and your good to go.

if pleated capture more particles wouldn't you have to replace them sooner than 90 days compared to the fiberglass that you're supposed to change every 30 days that doesn't filter that much?
