I'm pretty sure that grommet is where the drain hose from the channel around the sun roof (on cars that have one) drains out. Y'know, in case you were wondering why the hell Honda put a f**ing hole there in the first place! Another thing that can happen is that same hose comes loose from behind on the inside and just DUMPS water onto your floor. Anyway, thanks for the help; pretty sure the first solution you mentioned is what's causing my leak, since I vividly remember throwing away the felt seal between the windshield and cowl while saying something like, "Well, clearly I'll never need this!"

Hi man, i'm from France, thanks for the work, i'm actually annoyed by the leak of water, on both drive and passenger side, in my civic ek hatch, do you know if the grommet has to be in the other side of the car ? Thanks a lot again very helpful.
@slowlife47168 ай бұрын
If im not mistaken there is a gromment on both sides. Unless you have a sunroof, if you have a sunroof the hole where the grommet is, is actually a drain for the sunroof and there will be a hose thats running to that hole instead of a grommet, and that hose mightve came out the hole. If you dont have a sunroof than yes there should be a grommet on both sides

Thats crazy man, something like this with mine also but on the drivers side instead and it is coming from an area above my fuse box on the panel somewhere, helpful tho
@slowlife47169 ай бұрын
There's the same hole on the other side, driver and passenger side have the same hole, in the same spot too. I read its actually for the models with sunroofs and that's a drain hole on both sides for them

Alternatively easier way to check is to undo the wheel fender Linder pull it back a little and it’s visible from there just found mine was leaking from the help of this video as the previous owner ran sub wires through this hole and removed the grommet.
@slowlife47162 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's smart, preciate the knowledge. The only reason i had the fender off is because i was trying to find the leak, theres a few more spots in the area that could possibly be the culprit, so i took the fender off to inspect it all. But your tip will definitely help someone figure the problem out quicker and easier. We appreciate that.
@TheAnnieSisters Жыл бұрын
Thanks for that tip, i have been leak hunting for weeks! Both sides had 2 holes. one side had 1 empty hole and the smaller above was blocked by metal from the inside. I checked the other side (the one with the leak) and both holes are empty. So I'm guessing that's the one?

I have this issue, i think. Where the water is getting into the driver side floor board. i ripped up the floor rug and the carpet. and the floor is wet. I took my coupe to a person who i thought would of fixed it, and we had a bit of rain last night and its still a bit wet. The hood or around the hood hinge was sealed off with new sealant. and so now after watching your vid this would make sense too. A lot of sense ! lol i will have to try this just as a process of elimination. Thanks lets see what i find on the side of the fender i rather it be as simple as a grommet. 😀. Thanks man! I appreciate you giving me the confidence I needed to tackle a small issue I had on the inside of my door. Sounded like a leaf or something that would start blowing inside under speed of 40 mph to 75 mph, Took it apart in no time and found the culprit. Not a leaf but paper from the factory that had come loose and was stuck on the inside panel banging on the plastic.

Dude, I know this video is old but man, it's the only one out there. Thank you so much. I didn't have to remove anything but the factory air box, and the coolant line you explained. Had a tough time finding an 8th in drive breaker bar or even socket wrench to get that center lower nut off the head. I made sure to go easy buy I used wd40 as all the nuts on the manifold were from 98 and never been touched. Rust killed me and I didn't wanna strip anything. Let the wd40 soak for an hour or so as I was hanging with some buddies and drinkin. Dousted it a few times and is was pretty easy. This video helped me alot. Got yourself a sub now.

On my 98 LX sedan there is a bolt on the bottom of the intake that runs vertically. It can only be reached from underneath but it's easy with enough extensions. Looking up from the inner portion of the drivers side axle, I used a flashlight but it's there on mine. I just pulled the throttle body off, then removed the intake for more room to deal with the old paper gasket. Good video & great advice on that center bolt with the route you took.

I noticed your question is older so you might have already resolved your issue. If not & if I understand you correctly, the only way I know coolant could enter the intake would be from the IAC ( Idle Air Control) valve.

@@mikexbox1 I had the same problem and that grommet was the culprit, I hope it is for you to. Yours might be missing or cracked. If not look up the video on cleaning underneath the cowl of your windshield wipers. Also check your side mirror, they have gaskets that leak sometimes, or maybe the weatherstrip on your door, or maybe even your windshield seal is leaking. You can really test all this with a water hose.
@mikexbox13 жыл бұрын
@@slowlife4716 Really appreciate the help! I will definitely be going through and checking all of these! Is there a specific name for that grommet? Might have to buy one if i see its missing! And thanks again this is very helpful!
@slowlife47163 жыл бұрын
@@mikexbox1 no problem man I know the struggle, I have no clue what the name is or even how to find it, I took one off of another car. So your best bet would be going to a junkyard (and putting it in your pocket) if im not mistaken any honda from 93-00 should have them because JDM and GERMAN honda come with sidemarkers and I honestly think that hole is there for the wires for sidemarkers. But we don't have them in the USA so they just put a grommet there.
