I did! We are wrapping up. I ended up just dedicating Wednesdays to the geography/president part and that worked out a lot better. We did notebooking style and added the timeline pics and events in those notebooks. About once a quarter my kids did a presentation on a President, state, or one historical event that we had just studied. Some even made a state recipe for dinner. We watched KZfaq, historical movies or documentaries every other Friday or when sick. The reading was manageable for four days aloud with notebooking narrations. My younger ones did oral or drew narrations or I helped them. They did enjoy cutting and pasting the timeline pics into their notebooks. I did assign other living books with a deadline anywhere from 2-4 weeks for my older students. Overall it went well and it’s doable but some planning and looking over things ahead of time and making copies of the timeline for each student is required. I did start to skip things in the American Story books that would say “let’s pretend” because I have older students. But that wasn’t a lot in the books. Other than that it was good! Hope this helps.

We have used their Language Lessons this year and enjoyed it. We are currently using SCM for history, but I really like the looks of Queen Homeschool. Since you have used them both, I am anxious to hear your comparison. The main reason we are looking for a little something different is that we struggle to get our together time completed. We are a farm family and it upsets our routine frequently!
@moments_peace3 ай бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for your question. It’s a good one. I actually have a video coming out soon about the two companies having used both for over a decade. I have used them both most of the time together. For now I will do my best to answer your question. Both are great! You can’t go wrong especially if you love the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education. I believe I understand your question in that, as a farm family, your together family subjects are either taking too long or maybe taking too much energy or it’s a hit and miss with this subject or the farm demands? Not knowing the ages of your children, I would say, If your goal is to prioritize the needs of the farm and just get school done and well covered with less effort from you and more independence of your students then you are probably best trying history with Queen for a year or semester and see how that goes. If you want to blend the two in an easy way, I would recommend adding one or two read aloud books to read together for 15 mins or so, so you still have that time together and it enriches your history with Queen even if each child is independently doing history. Or you could pick read alouds that go with the history time period and use the SCM list for a few living books to have your children read with their queen history independently example: 2-4 living books for them to read for the year or assign one each book each month depending on your children’s ability. The living books just add a connection and richness but not really necessary outside of what Queen recommends for history. Their history does have a timeline included that the student does along the way. This would give you a little family history time and living book balance. BUT if you want to just do Bible and apologetics etc as a family and pretty much everything else independently for the student Queen would be the way to go. SCM history, geography/bible is awesome and a favorite here! For us, it’s a priority to keep our homeschool flow with those subjects as family subjects outside of bible and apologetics morning time. I love the variety of living books in SCM but each year and season is different. We have had times when just Queen and independent learning was the answer for that year. So be encouraged that both companies and courses are great, you can blend the two if you wanted in some way affordably, and it is doable, but pray and don’t feel guilty about not wanting to do family subjects or read aloud. I hope this has been helpful and thank you for watching. Please be on the look out for the video on both. 😊 blessings to your family!

@@moments_peace Thank you so much for the thorough reply! We were new to SCM this year and it was wonderful during our quieter season, but it has been more difficult to get the kids together and keep it going since work picked back up. Unfortunately, we found ourselves falling behind. My children will be 7th and 10th grade next year and the 10th grader is an Integral part of our farm work now so he has to keep a different schedule during prime seasons. Both of them were frustrated with not being able to to work independently when needed. You have given me some great suggestions to cover in prayer. Thank you so much for sharing about these resources, your videos are a blessing!

Thank you for sharing and watching! I forgot to add that if you need world and American history SCM does cover both over two years in cycles five and six. With Queen it’s more of a one year with one focus. Like American or world. This doesn’t seem to really be an issue given your kids grades. 😊

Thank you for sharing! But I have a question is Biblical Worldview the same as apologetics? I'm planning on using BJU'S Biblical Worldview for grade 6; however, after watching your video I am considering switching it out with the Mastersbook's question books. What are your thoughts?
@moments_peace3 ай бұрын
A biblical worldview simply means the lens by which you look at the world being informed entirely by scripture. The term apologetics refers to giving a defense of the faith so studying apologetics helps you to defend the faith once your worldview is informed entirely by scripture. So reading the scriptures and reading and studying apologetics helps you defend the Scriptures scientifically and biblically, that then forms your worldview into a biblical worldview. If you have younger kids the answers for kids question books are very helpful and work well with the BJU. The BJU level 6 covers some of the same questions that the MB Quick answers books do. The quick answers book 2 on social issues could be used with BJU level 6. Or start with MB then do BJU 6 or vice versa. Both resources are fantastic!
@fab5bailey3693 ай бұрын
Thank you for this explanation! I have a much better understanding now of the two. Depending on how much my children enjoy the first chapter of BJU worldview, I’ll have the Masterbooks Quick Questions for back up 😊.
