I know enough about electricty to know I shouldn't be messing with it. I had an older electrician, that had experience with sugar mill maintenance, do all of my industrial wiring for my projects. I actually saw him do maintenance for a college electrical engineer's large refrigeration system (but electrical related) and when he made that electrican's repairs, the electrical engineer asked. "how did you do that?" Lol...they were competitors for large projects in my area.....and the 'old guy' got about 75%+ of those projects. Thanks for the video

Good video but ya lost me on the theory early in the video. But if you use a Lovejoy, the driven motor is going to rotate in the opposite direction from using the belt. Does that affect anything?

Way too high tech for me. What I did out of ignorance was run 120v to two legs of my idler motor(phase converter), 120v to two legs of the motor on my mill, then connected the third leg of both motors together. A simple knife switch is wired to the idler motor. I have a two inch pulley on the idler motor that I kick start and and flip the knife switch to start. The motor comes up to speed quickly and just sits there and hums. I've often thought about setting up a pony motor to start the idler but what I have has worked for many years. An electric motor shop nearby runs a similar set up with a series of capacitors that start the idler motor for start up.

Nice. I have worked on a couple of converters. We used to install some made by "Ronk" I think they were in Illinois and they made static converters (they may have made rotary as well). We used them in some old school buildings that had been converted from coal to oil and the converters were used to drive oil burner motors for the boilers. At that time 2hp & 3 hp motors were usually only 3 phase. Some of these old schools only had single phase power.

That tractor was 12 volt when new and was positive ground. It is incorrect to say that any 12 volt tractor is negative ground. They generally switched to negative ground when they started using alternators. Most 12 volt tractors from all brands with generators were positive ground.

For years I have enjoyed your videos, especially after I realized you too are a Marine Corps veteran. I have similar interests and enjoy saving old tractors from the scrap yard. I always wondered about the Tractorman44 handle and thought maybe 44 was your birth year. But I thought you sure look young for a guy who’s been around for eighty years! Even your “much older brother” looks younger than eighty! Recently I saw one of your videos in which you shared that the 44 is a tribute to the Massey Harris 44- one of your favorites. As a boy helping haul hay I occasionally drove their 33 which was a treasured experience. Since retiring I’ve mechanically restored several Masseys. A MF50, MF35, TO35, and others. I’m in southwest Indiana and if you and your missus ever wanted to show your collection I’d convince my wife to make a trip to Missouri, which is where you are, right? No matter what, keep the videos coming. I really appreciate you sharing your talents and experiences!

Semper Fi my friend. Thanks for sharing your memories of your time on a 33. They too are very fine tractors, as you know, merely smaller versions of the 44. I appreciate all the kind words and thank you for watching for such a long time. Yes, we are in Missouri right south of good ol' St Louis. I'm afraid you wouldn't be too impressed with my old rusty stuff, I really don't have anything special except an Avery A that blows a ton of smoke and a totally dismantled Oliver 66 orchard. The rest are plain jane run of the mill regular tractors that we use off and on as needed. No matter though, we always enjoy a visit from others with similar interests as there's always a ton of stuff to talk about. I find it difficult to maintain steady tractor related vids because there are always so many things that occupy our time, but if I think its something of interest, I just set the camera up and try to make a video. Just yesterday I spent a few hours tarring the foundation, installing sock pipe and backfilling it for a shed we are building for one daughter. I didn't even think to set the camera up even though it was a good opportunity to. Lots of skidsteer time and I totally forgot about it !! Oh well, today is another day. Have a great day and who knows...we may get to share some time over coffee one of these days !!

The number on the side of the Kubota loader is the lift capacity in Kg. So this loader is only capable of lifting around 800 pounds after deducting the weight of the forks. I agree though, I'd expect a little more lift capacity in a tractor this size. That's why an MX5400 was added to the stable. It has a 1065 Kg loader (2,343 lbs).

Hey tractorman 44 I love watching your videos I picked up a 1975 international Cub that has wiring fiddled with and changed years ago. I believe it originally came with a neutral safety starting contraption, but most of that is gone, I am just wanting to have it start and run like my 67 does although this has a three position keyed starter switch. Do you know where I could find a wiring diagram to straighten this mess out?
@tractorman4461

I have a good one I used for a 72 Ford 2000. But its a total rewire with new alternator and adding voltmeter while eliminating the ammeter. You may be able to adapt the pertinent info from that one for yours. I don't recall if this one had a three position switch though. Here it is here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hr55m5ppx6rWYIk.html. I would think the first click energizes the ignition and charging circuit and the second (spring loaded) click engages the solenoid for the starter then releases it as it springs back, but the first click remains energized for the ignition/charging system until the key is turned off.

This is where I got the last couple kits: amsconstructionparts.com/case/580b/backhoe/hydraulic-cylinders/parts. Iirc, they needed the numbers on the actual back hoe for a loader cylinder kit.

No one was more surprised than I Leonard. The gas is so old, it wasn't the new blended gases so there is apparently no accumulation of crud and oxidation inside the carb.
