My wife just discovered Allplay games at Gencon and is wanting to try all of them. We picked up Sail, Mind space and Mountain Goats at the convention since they were so inxepensive there. A lot of game in those small boxes. They are great for when we go camping since they take up so little space.

It was a long time ago (4+ years) so my memory is hazy, but I still remember one aspect of my play: I got sacked and stuck into some form of negative feedback loop where I experienced the opposite of a catchup mechanic.

Thank you for this very interesting recap! You put many new titles in my watch list. The main reason I play board game is to interact with people and move away from the computer screen. But, deep down, maybe the real reason, is to have fun and a good time. Which is why I think we have many interest in common. I had on my watchlist: Clank legacy 2, Colab, Stardriven Gateway ( I love Rock Manor games), Star Tycoon. And you made me add: Conquest Princess, Seti, Frozen Frontier, Defenders of the Realm (I played the older version), Above and Below: Haunted, Murray the Ashole Frog. Can't wait to watch your more detailed review/preview video. I was invited to go this year, but I might actually go next year. I have about a dozen friends going every year, would be nice to do it at least one and see if I'm ready to do it again!

Living in Belgium is most of the time so expensive to back games. Conquest princess 100$ +29$ shipping+ 21%VAT+ some import costs= 160$ for the base game alone 😢 And I like coöp games, but they hardly make them in Europe.

I have like 12 games still coming that I backed at some point. I was wondering if any of them would be in this video. NOPE. :P Sort of should have expected that because it's titled hype-worthy. But yeah there are just a LOT of good games coming. It's kinda crazy. Defenders of the Realm was already on my to-watch list. Invincible sounds interesting. Didn't know about Land vs Sea. And Conquest Princess sounds cool too... Rivers of Gold is using the Rokugan world. I recognized it instantly. That's from Legend of the Five Rings. I always loved that theme but the card game never really panned out. I'm now starting my first play of Fateforge... I just went through the rules. It's like a campaign dungeon crawler, with app. That doesn't sound too appealing perhaps, given that there are so many, but.. I got a really good feeling about this one. I managed to snag the Deluxe edition that was still selling at their online store.

I want to get the CoLab expansion. One of the biggest reasons I haven't played it yet is due to comments I read about the game length. I really want to get into it though as it was my most anticipated game last year!

See maybe that's it; I have the original Ashes: Rise Of The Phoenixborn, and when it got canceled I snatched up ALL of the expansion. Then they did Ashes Reborn, and I got the update. I like the mechanics a lot, but I really just never enjoyed it against people. I think I would enjoy it a LOT more if it was co-op against a boss. I was thinking about selling my collection, but maybe I should try this?

I am pretty sure the game you are talking about here 13:05 is Hewns. They have been working on this game for a long time. My wife sat in on a demo for this game back at our first Gencon in 2018. She stopped by there on Sunday and they remembered her. It looks really cool. I hope it does come out at some point.

Haha, it's such a simple game to me with some 'side stuff' ... Yet you went above and beyond to how I played Magic (3rd-5th-ish+ editions) for years .... which IS impressive. But I don't think it compares in that context, loving to hear you disprove me otherwise. . I kinda feel like you find this game a bit 'too interesting' and not seeing it's pretty much just a party game for funsies. Or maybe I just don't see it as you do...so please help?

Quick question two year later: Did this die?

I've just learned about this game and am SO EXCITED. Our kids and I love Gloomhaven JOTL. Two girls, 15 and 13 and one boy 9 1/2. We just finished playing it and WANTED to play Gloomhaven "next" but are going to wait on Gloomhaven 2.0 to come out which is like March 2025 or something. I missed backing it and am thinking of just waiting until it's on Amazon or I can get it directly from Cephalophair next summer at this point. Anyway, I started looking for other games "similar," and found Tales from The Red Dragon Inn! School starts back in a week and we won't have 20 hours a week to game anymore. (I teach at their school so we're all home all summer together.) But this looks so amazing!!! It gets rid of all the things I DIDN'T like about GH - tracking mana, setting initiative, figuring out enemy attacks, tracking everything, and leveling up separately (absolutely annoying with kids) - but has everything I love! So yeah, I'm excited!!! Thanks so much for the great review!!

Very late to the party but I think I agree with the whole review. I got it for about 50€, the deluxe edition. The deluxe edition might be a bit of meh for more experienced players, there are way better deluxe editions but it's definitely very attractive for the newer players.

Gutted you decided to not read the lore. It nicer to hear it than read it. but enjoyed the video non the less.

Sought it, got it, sold it. Loved the theme and artwork but after a few plays I found this a real grind. Just felt like as soon as you get rid of one monster, then another two would attach themselves to you… spend most of the time dealing with these and the exploration felt very limited (once you have played a couple of missions you know most of the locations). Also, each scenario has a very limited number of monster types, a bit like Earthborne rangers where one area has certain enemies, but here it is those same enemies for the whole game. Also, I know this is far more streamlined than previous version but set up still felt finicky (especially sorting the location tiles) for the overall length of the game (and I am someone who regularly sets up Voidfall!). Like you say, it is also very swingy… being given an easy random win isn’t much fun…

This is very high on my list of things I think I might really like. Really love the Fallout videogames so the theme fits. Also a somewhat lighter campaign and gameplay then the gloomhavens and agemonias. I played earthborne rangers though and sold it. The movement system was getting annoying after a while. For a mission I needed to go from A to D but then to pass B and C it would involve minutes of setting up decks and rushing skill checks just to get to the location with actual interesting things.

I absolutely LOVE Scarface 1920, but it's absolutely the kind of game that REQUIRES you to leave your emotions on the table. Go out, cause some chaos, brush off the wild moments you get caught up in and just have fun with it. Thankfully it does tend to balance out those overly aggressive players with the Raid track, and I'm yet to see someone actually win by focusing too much on kicking over someone else's toys instead of focusing on building out their resources for sale and being opportunistic with the aggression. It's a big teach, though fortunately flows really nicely once it's clicked in. I also created an orders reference guide (boardgamegeek.com/filepage/257796/scarface-1920-orders-reference-sheets). If you give it another go, make sure you have these handy as they're a huge help.
