THANK YOU for this HISTORICAL and ENTERTAINING POST! If anyone can point me in the direction as to how this race was on ESPN as well as why Mr. Johnson chose THIS race as his first on pavement and has he run any other pavement races and why did those BIG NAMES of ALLISON and MOORE get involved and what was the connection of CJ RAYBURN to this race…..how DID THIS all COME TOGETHER? again, THANK YOU, i, up til THIS, had only HEARD about this EXCELLENT track and read about many a close race in USAC division. What was the purse? Did ESPN presence raise the stakes? GO MICKEY

interesting to see Mr.Allison and Mr. Johnson running CJ RAYBURN Camaros that were built to run at dirt tracks. Rayburn was the PREMIER builder of such machines and a pretty good hotshoe himself.

Fun facts….Ronnie Johnsons dad, Joe Lee Johnson won the 1st ever World 600. Ronnie is a member of the Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame after winning just about every big race there is in that regard. Mickey Flora was a veteran of USAC stock car division. And then theres the absolute LEGEND of LARRY MOORE, one of the best to ever do it. MOORE ran usac, arca VERY competitively. He won EVERYTHING there was to win on dirt in Late Models including multiple ELDORA wins and is a member of Late Model Dirt hof.

Wow. Great post. Great image. Is this because it was professionally shot? Better film maybe? Did this track become the 16th street speedway?

Reace in Peace Kevin! Thank you for capturing this interview and sharing it with everyone. I met Kevin in 2004 at Ohayocon and knew him as a great photography friend until (what was then) the last time I would see him at Youmacon 2018.

Kevin's contributions to anime fandom through his masterful photography was a major influence in anime fandom. He was a good friend and one of those rare people who could have an intelligent discussion on numerous issues. As much as he is missed in one field, he is also missed in another. Rest In Peace, my friend.

I remember when the the old grandstands burned. Sometime about 1965 they built new stands in concrete. My Dad did not like reruns on TV and we often went there in the summer.

In the 60's my dad raced there. WTTV had commercials on TV promoting Speedrome. The commercial was the crash with Bob Cloud and my dad..it was the biggest crash of the summer. Is there any possible way to find those commercials and obtain a copy on disc . I think 1963 or 4 . Possibly 62. Thank you.

holy shit 500 laps, thats a long run, how many times did they do this race, this is the first I have really heard of it today 12/20/2021 thats got to be really harsh and a feat of endurace, though in reading more about the little 500 in anderson that too has the midgets though I thought they ran sprints there at the little 500 I know it has a big following though but never been there myself. follow mainly winged sprints, which seem to be short in supply in indiana next season in 22, but there are lots of silver crown races scedualed in indiana and twice at eldora of course till now I thought the little 500 was a shorter race then 500 laps.

There are 2 very smart men on this video. A couple of notes is the Jeffersonville Sportsdrome in Indiana was built in 1947 shortly after WW II. In the 70's when the World 600 was on the day before the Indy 500 Bobby Allison was forbidden from even starting the 600.

I started going to the Speedrome in the mid to late 90s. Still going now. So thankful I got to watch "The General" win back to back Late Model titles. Tremendous talent in a Late Model. Congrats on the Hall of Fame induction!

This was 1994 not 1993 would love to see you post the 93 3hour and the 92 and 91 if you have them because the Jonathan bryds fabulous 50s says 1993 also the 3hour qualifying races and it says 93 and Mike st john won the qualifying race in car number 51 he never raced before that year and it says he won the 3hour the year before which had me confused too but thanks for posting the old race videos I always loved racing at speedrome and wish you had videos of the general tire fig8 series from when you guys raced other tracks.
