I don't think you can fault the first wife. Being held a gun point can not be handled by everyone. That does not mean that she did not love Audie. Glad the 2nd marriage worked out for him and he had 2 sons. He is an American hero.

I’m a great fan (including my mum) of Audie Murphy, for his background, to the rejections, to the man he became, a truly wholesome hero! Never forgotten, he lives on forever in our thoughts and hearts.

My father in law said the word about him was he could see like a hawk. Camouflage stuck out like a neon sign to him. He wouldn't let any of his guys be out in front of him. And he could shoot as well as he could see.

The Red Badge of Courage was meant to be ironic and anti war it was not a Bildung Roman novel but the opposite. This seems to escape a lot of readers. However there is no denying that this guy was a very brave yet unassuming man.

I had the honor of visiting Arlington late last year. I paid my respects to Audie Murphy and others. His grave is not far from the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. I was surprised that his grave stone was just as plain as the other veterans buried there. I had thought that his grave would be more decorated as he himself had become. I believe that he wouldn't have wanted his memorial to be any more special than the others. God bless him and all the others who served in all the nation's conflicts.

I remember when the mainstream media announced his death I think they gave him a couple of minutes of airtime and that was it. Shame on these people.

@@carlcarlson1369 Agree Totally disgusting-no respect for a Hero who fought for his country risking life and limb and suffering severely from PTSD with no help from the same government and not even awarded the Medal of Freedom yet -51 years since Audie passes away. Other less deserving people had been awarded !! Shame Shame !

Good actor, then again it can't be hard to portray a hero when you are one! He was a very handsome guy too, and his masculinity came through the screen. I hate that he suffered so much. I hope we can keep America's history of heroes alive. They did a real disservice in this video by dubbing this awful voice over his in this video.

@@velmacoontz1949 no, it's not his voice at all in some parts. If you've seen any of his movies his voice is very distinctive, unmistakable.

Murphy could have challenged the height requirement. According to The official Marine Corps recruitment manual, although the Corps does prefer males taller than 5'8", and women above 5'4", any male or female who, despite being no taller than 5 feet tall, males must weigh 148 lbs, and women must weigh 128 lbs, AND be able to preform all required physical ability tests for their entrance level fitrep., which is not much harder than passing a fitrep for entrance into any bra branch of the armed forces.

Travis Rush To most on here, your comment falls on deaf and ignorant ears. The few that took the time to educate themselves know, what you said is absolutely, unequivocally TRUE!! It's a shame that people don't have a clue who is running their country(i'll give you a clue...it's not the president) let alone the world. Every war,all the way back to the revolutionary was orchestrated by outside super elite entities that manipulate our govt/country to this day. It's always a joy to find others that have been illuminated to these facts. Well done Sir.
