Dvorak was a wonderful composer. It's no wonder that Brahms, who was not stupid, kept pushing him to win competitions. Brahms was prickly, but he Knew good work when he heard it. He celebrated the victory of Prussia in 1871 with a cantata, which none of you have ever heard--but he went to see CARMEN 23 times. His followers abominated Wagner--but when Wagner needed the parts copied for DIE MEISTERSINGER by all the musicians in Wien, there was Brahms, in his corner, copying out the parts. Intelligence beats chauvinism. I'm only sorry that Partricia Janeckova didn't live to play the part. Eheu, Postumus,

I took my girlfriend to see what I thought was a production of this opera, but it turned out to be a play about the ups and downs of Valet Parking Attendants! (i.e., Car Men!) - What a disappointment! And there was no singing or dancing, only pantomimed acting! What a letdown! And I was going to give them a free copy of my new "Save the Animals" and "It's Christmas Again!" songs on KZfaq for them to sing! What a bummer! - Prof. Jim

🎉🎉🎉🎉 “Venti, turbini, prestate” signifie littéralement “Vent, tourbillons, prêtez-moi vos ailes”. C’est l’une des arias de bravoure de Haendel composée pour mettre en valeur la voix du chanteur. Dans cette aria, le personnage exprime sa détermination à surmonter les obstacles.

When I listen to Rosalyn Tureck play any piece by Bach, I always get the feeling that this is what Bach intended. There’s always a “rightness” to it, which is hard to explain. As much of a genius as Glenn Gould was, i often feel differently. Sometimes it seems like it’s him imposing his way on it. I don’t know if anyone else feels this way. Gould said Tureck was the one who influenced his playing the most, so that’s interesting. I wonder what she felt about his playing? It would be fascinating to hear her give her honest, unfiltered opinion.

One can see why Glenn Gould admired Tureck so much. She was certainly a great Bach player and thinker. She set a standard of Bach playing which was unmatched for its time period. I knew someone who studied with her and he said she was very quirky. I can see that. Her affectations and manner in her speaking could be satirized on Saturday Night Live! 😂😂. But I sincerely have the utmost respect for her towering stature as an artist.

Pre mňa je toto najkrajšie prevedenie Rusalky, aj čo do hlasov, aj čo do obsadenia. Nádherná dvojica Kateřina Macháčková - Miroslav Nohýnek, s hlasmi Milady Šubrtovej a Ivo Žídeka, plus perfektný Eduard Haken. Úžasný zážitok aj po takmer štyridsiatich rokoch.
