Nice break down and review of these axles. Like most of the China stuff a little DIY goes a long way. I have the AMK Rock Jock clones under my 1.9 Wraith and I've been surprised how the internals have held up. I didn't mind having to do some modifications to the knuckles for proper smooth steering myself at the price point IMO considering the Vanquish stuff is absurdly over priced my opinion though. I think lots of people buy these cheaper options thinking slap in and go, but like you just explained here you have to take your time and sort these options out and don't expect $600 quality for an eigth of the price. I have a set similar to what you have here I haven't installed into anything as of yet. Also would swapping out to some better quality bearings maybe cure your play you experienced in the axle stub end? I've ran into the China bearings to not be exact spec myself as well. Thanks for sharing with us
@drivetowrench270923 сағат бұрын
Yeah, there's a fine line price wise. For me a lot of the high end stuff is a waste of cash but to each their own. Unfortunately it's not usually the bearings (not in these for sure), because that would be too easy. There are definately poor quality bearings out there but they usually just don't last very long (especially if you get them wet and/or don't clean them). I've seen quite a few out of spec drive shafts and some are just really really bad. Somewhat comically, the only ones I've ever gotten that were totally useless, the CVD pins were too short and they would come apart almost instantly and it's not easy to get pins for cheap. Unfortunately it's a bit of a crap shoot...

You could have tried to run it without the body. Since i want to change the body anyway - if the gyro on this so good that i dont have to change it this would speak vor this over the RX7 ones.
@drivetowrench27093 күн бұрын
I did, there's a note - less weight, more twitchy gyro like the plastic cars, so I'm not sure the gyro is different. Might be that the servo is a little weak. The 1899 chassis is super stiff so it's hard to test without the body on. You need the stiffer springs/sway bars to run the heavy body, the plastic body springs are way too soft

Thanks. Lowest speed mode is definitely a little more controllable. Silicone spray on the tires makes it even more drifty and it still seems to handle more or less the same for me. A little silicone spray on the suspension (apply with Q-tip) also solved one side that was a bit sticky (it's not oil and doesn't leave sticky residue)

I wish I didn't in the end because it just doesn't drive well, not enough angle and there's more angle on one side. I spent countless hours trying to correct it aswell as too much money on extra parts. It just has no business trying be a rear wheel drifter and best left as is, which is still fun though. Is it compatible with Mini-Z bodies? And Mini-Z diffs?
@drivetowrench2709Ай бұрын
I don't have a mini-z but I believe the diffs are essentially the same width as a Mini-Q/Wltoys (bearing to bearing) which is too wide. The bodies should fit if you have the right wheelbase and fat/thin tire setup and are capable of installing magnetic mounts (some DIY probably required). Got a video coming on the kit with the Mini Cooper body, which I believe is intended for Mini-Z. The other issue is wheel openings, meaning suspension travel and caster adjustment can create rubbing, so if you play with the setup of the car, the body fit may suffer. Got a video coming on the kit with the Mini Cooper body, which I believe is intended for Mini-Z that covers all this

So I've been on a massive 3D printing run for a month or so now and just past week I got the files for this cage... First of all, AWESOME!! But, secondly... I build Orlandoo Hunter RC vehicles. So I rescaled this cage to fit inside the 1/35-1/32 scale Orlandoo Hunter 5 door Jeep and just finished printing the final pieces a little bit ago. I'll be doing some modifications of course. I printed several pieces multiple times to get them sized correctly. I'll mention your channel in a video coming up about it to give you credit for the cage and possibly promote your channel more, as well as add the link to this cage and video ... If you don't mind? I'm new to 3d printing and have a used/refurbished ender3 V2 that has given me a ton of problems for over a year, but, mostly the last couple of months. Thanks for everything! 💯
@drivetowrench2709Ай бұрын
Very cool. Keep an eye out for deals on Enders. My opinion, when it starts to get old a new one makes a lot of sense and then use the old one for spare parts. I consider myself pretty patient and I rarely give up trying to fix things, but 3D printers are one of the most finicky things I have experienced and there are people who preach all kinds of crazy time wasting, bordering on cult ritual type stuff. I bought a Kingroon KP3S cheap and have done literally nothing to it and have had so much fewer problems than my old Ender that it made me question hundreds of hours of effing around... of course, the biggest issue by far is inconsistent fillament quality

The dumbo external gyro is pretty bad in comparison to the other cheap gyros, but it is better then the rb for our scale size car. Afrc v3.5-v4 and dasmicro v5 are the best you can get for cheap. Just make sure you click B and C together to turn off the stock internal gyro and run it around 45-60 gain.

Yup, but it's almost double the price (or more cdn)... Seems hard to justify a gyro that costs as much as the car unless you're going to use it in something else too (for most people)

@drivetowrench2709Ай бұрын
Probably... not all tire bead size is the same (annoying) it's hard to predict without owning every single type of tire. These type of wheel usually can be made to work but install can be a bit of a pain. Use a longer screw to get started and if the bead is too thick, be prepared to leave a little gap in the middle between the two wheel halves (not ideal but functional)

@drivetowrench2709Ай бұрын
Yeah, when you order from the other side of the world an unfortunate part of the equation is that support isn't really an option. People ask me to sell stuff I make all the time and there just isn't any money in it if you're not in China. One of these LDRC cars would have to cost at least 50% more if you wanted to get proper support, probably more considering how many come out of the factory needing a little tweaking. The other way to look at it is that we get stuff cheap and the community is the support, we just need to avoid over paying ;^)

For the portals , I knew i was going to open mine so so I took the time to flip the side the input shaft comes in on . no need to reverse the motor wire as it cancels out reverse rotation of portal gears. Also I too replaced the oily grease with green marine water proof grease 5 bucks for 85g tube (Motomaster stuff) . I also lightly grased the protal gears . They looked like self lubricating sinterd metal , but i dont trust it as mine were bone dry . tiny dab of green greas and way better. I did not greas anyting that woudl be exposed to dirt n dust . Then to break them in i drove each axel with my cordless drill in 2nd drive gear hard for 10 min. then in short bursts in both direction at various speeds . now they are so smooth , the only resistance I have is the drivshave U joints might be too steep on one of my trucks . I have 3 ( c24-1 ) and 2 of them are lifted and portaled. way too much fun . Maybe i should get CV to replace the U joint axels.

Very nice tipp!Would be intresting how does the hex work on the stock HB Beluga truck? There must also be the stub axles have different positioned holes also?
@drivetowrench2709Ай бұрын
Definately possible but it seems very odd that the simply flipping the output gear around 180 makes it perfectly match the TRX4. Chinese clones are notorious for manufacturing issues - for example, somebody makes a boo boo on the stub shaft and now they have 5,000 of them, so they figure out a way to use them and pass the problem on to the customer. It is what it is, I have seen shaft slightly too small for the intended bearing, holes .5mm off, unmachines holes, holes mahined in the wrong spot and the part flipped 180 and the hole smachined in the right spot... my money is on somebody made a boo boo and they didn't want to eat the cost. It's like number 8 in the Chinese manufacturing ten commandments - though shalt pass on the problem to somebody else and make money doing it

I'm thinking because they chose 1/76 scale this is 00 scale in britain and very close to 1/87 h.o. scale here in Canada these are intended to be used on model train layouts where you are going to be more concerned with drivability than speed as you dont want it crashing into scenery etc that you've spent time and money on.
