The other bowl isnt vibrating (the one on top of another rubber)... was this rubber neoprene??

The way this diffusor is simulaled shows the false idea behind the subject: Balls could only simulate the way very high frequencies are reflected and in particular it shows that they are scattered. Basically we need something different in terms of frequency spreading in various directions while maintaining the energy of the wave and taking benefit from the wave superposition effects. See the german wikipedia for that where me and others discribed that in detail.

indeed this is a strange design whereby in this particular case (unlike with many others) the disangled surfaces appear to have at least partially a common direction which is essential for the kind of diffussion we want. So the diffusor obviously works with 2 or more central reflection directions which will lead to a possibly better response for from-the-side-reflections while lowering the effect for the central reflections. However: These angled surfaces do contradict the idea of frequency spread reflections the QRD has been introduced for.
