Thank you the video! could you explain please, when you play the Dm7 in the first bar of Phrase1 (around min 3:28), you play also the E note. However, you explained before in the notes of the D minor 7, that you play the notes of D-F-A-C. Why is the E note added there?
@OnlineSaxAcademy
@OnlineSaxAcademy 2 күн бұрын
The E is the 2nd or 9th, it’s a nice note to include too.

@@OnlineSaxAcademy I see.. but yet I'm confused (I'm new to this). I thought that when you have a chord above a given bar, in this case Dm7 you should play or improvise only on that given chord name. Is this just an exception here? or as long as it on the scale its ok?

I like the breakdown of all this. As the saying goes, sometimes less is more. Trying to touch on the different notes in changing chords really baffled me for a long time. But over time a sense of where the chords are directing you becomes more instinctive and deeper than just the notes themselves. Content like this really consolidates that and is very helpful. Thanks.

I love your explanations . I have a very basic question. When you are playing especially a tenor sax, the sound is so loud, it makes it difficult to hear the accompanying chord changes . How do you solve that problem ?

why are you using d melodic minor on b half diminished ?

This is because you can build the B half diminished chord from the 6th degree of D melodic minor.

Love the video. Thanks for a great warm up. The only critique is to have the scale up on the video about one or two seconds prior playing it. I was missing the first couple of notes of each scale because I didn't know what was coming next.

Hi very interesting video. About the Lester version, it is not obvious that at the "D" bar, the note on the third beat is a E (for tenor sax) , may be a F natural, for a bluesy approach of the third of the chord. Because of the swing phrasing, this note in the bottom of the instrument is very difficult to hear precisely.
