Anyone saying that garbage is foolish. And probably a bad chef. Cast iron, when treated right, will last forever. I have the pan my great grandmother was gifted when she married her husband in the 20’s. They can go in the oven, they’re non toxic. Just stop. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Leave the subject to this content creator who clearly knows what’s up.

Old cast iron is where it's at. That new stuff isn't worth it to me.. I bought ones that look much worse than yours gave it a little love and like you said better than new.

My nana and papa divided up all of their assets long before they passed away. My papa passed away in 2021 from Covid and my nana finally passed two weeks ago after battling cancer and dementia at 95. I couldnt be prouder that she made absolutely sure that I was the one to get her cast iron pan, especially since I'm only 27 and all the older generation wanted it, and can't wait to try to restore it as beautifully as you have

Put it in a fire. A bonfire or get a fire pit. It is safter than the self cleaning oven feature.

it’s okay it’s an easy clean get yourself a roll of paper towels a little water and wipe, no scrubbing needed your going to love how shiny your oven will look.

So, cast iron is actually a silver color. Its black because of the carbonized oil aka seasoning. So that antique pan also has carbonized oil on it. Idk why the walmart pan is flaking like that, but I'd guess its the type of oil used. Mine are from different stores and i dont get any flaking. Weird. I wonder if you could just use a steel scrubber on it and season it with avocado oil to make it stop flaking. (The carbonization of the oil happens in the seasoning process when you put the oiled pan in the oven. Most older pans were the only pans used so their seasoning was just done by daily cooking)

Use dirt, yes dirt to remove the rust. Then wash with detergent and scrub pad. Pat dry, then grease the entire pan and place in the oven to bake until cure. Afterwards avoid submerging in water when washing. If so, always keep it greased and cured to avoidid rusting.
