let's be honest here Jackie Chan was never actually a fighter, taking nothing away from him he is a very skilled actor, stuntman, acrobat and dancer trained at the Peking opera school. he has never engaged in real life combat that wasn't choreographed for a movie.

I'm extremely happy that Jackie didn't become a "replacement" for Bruce Lee. Jackie was my favourite actor back in my childhood because of his style and approach to MA and stunts.

I think the differences between Jackie chan and Bruce Lee is the style of fighting as well. Because Bruce Lee did JKD while Jackie chan used Wing Tsun Wing Chun and Calisthenics (acrobatics). I also think that the best actor I could think of that will succeed Bruce Lee would be both Phillip Ng and Robert Downing Jr.

I think the saddest thing about this is, we'll never get the Jackie Chan/Bruce Lee team up. But who knows if Jackie's carrier would have taken off in the same way... such is history.

Jackie's styles he mentioned is not so much wing chun or shaolin, as it is peiking opera which these styles are taught as more of a demonstrating style showcasing aerobatic and theatrical performances. Sure Jackie went on to learn hapkido, american boxing, Taekwondo and various martial arts including animal kungfu and wingchun. But he did with the intention of integrating them into his performances, not necessarily becoming a great fighter... not sayinv he wasn't a decent fighter. Listening to his stories he had his fair share of street brawls. But come on man. Research.
