just to touch on the "people pleasers" part, our culture in the NMI and Guam is very hospitable. this goes for all of Micronesia as well; it is very clear when i study as much islands as i can, the similarities GREATLY outweigh the differences which leads me to see that we are basically the same people who have left islands due to lack of living space and food. just a dip in the ocean of pacific culture... its WAY too big of an ocean to put in this comment section .... but... yeah.. esta buddy susti guadi....lol

Just back from Guam and really enjoying your videos! I am an adventure sports guide, so really loved getting out into some unusual areas while on the island. Like you, the skeeters love me. There was an excellent study of mosquitoes in a book called, well, Mosquito. If you are O blood type they apparently are even more attracted to you. However there are other factors as well, even if you have a different blood type. But studies do suggest that certain people seem more interesting to them than others. In my case, I can sit with my wife somewhere and get like 8 mosquito bites while they utterly ignore her. In fact I do not remember her ever getting bitten. Her theory (she is Korean) is that her blood, to a mosquito, must smell like kimchee while mine is like a chocolate milkshake.

I was shipped to Guam in support of Operation Frequent Wind which resulted in the construction of Tin City. While I was working around the clock, I didn’t get out of work and out on the island for several months. This was in the early 70s. When the operation came to an end and I had time to see the island and meet the people I fell in love with Guam. Fortunately, CINCPAC opened up the island for enlisted military families and provided travel and housing. My family lived in Tamuning. My daughter was born at the Naval Hospital in Agana - just prior to Typhoon Pamela making landfall. While it was bad, the islanders were welcoming and sharing food and supplies. My daughter is planning a visit to the island soon!

What in your opinion are the best schools on Guam and best neighborhoods to raise a family? I'm a single father raising my 9 almost 10 year old son if that helps for context.
@DaniAdams
@DaniAdams 3 ай бұрын
So because I don't have a school age child yet, I can't give a genuine opinion about which schools would be best. However I do prefer certain neighborhoods/villages, and that would determine your child's school district. From there I would recommend doing some research on the schools in those areas to see where you feel it would be a great fit for your son :) I really like Agana Heights, some areas of Sinajana, Barrigada Heights, Yona, and some areas of Tamuning. When are you moving to Guam?

@DaniAdams

How exciting! I hope you get to do a lot even for a short visit! Haha so personally, I feel like the brown tree snake issue is exaggerated. You'd mostly find them in jungle areas. There was one that found its way into the Guam Power Authority's main site many years ago, got tangled up in the lines or something, and caused an island-wide power outage 🤦🏽‍♀️ I think people just assumed from that story that Guam had an overpopulation of snakes 😂

So I don't know how true this is, but I heard about an instance a long time ago where someone used his friend's military ID and wore one of his uniforms to get in. He went on a spending spree buying cheaper gas, groceries, etc. So when an employee figured out that he was a civilian and reported him, then of course the bases became more strict with their process of letting visitors in.
