Bill Beaumont stated after the series that if Rob Louw did not play the Lions would've won the series. It is quite interesting how Rob played a role in most of tries scored. His linking and passing was brilliant and sometimes his acceleration increased the possibility of scoring a try.

The greatest NZ series win ever, considering the player that were unavailable, the demonstration and riots, plus how the tour ripped the country apart, and simply the Springboks position by position were bigger, and faster than the all blacks. The Springboks only had themselves to blame for the series loss and in particular that 3rd test loss.

Burger Geldenhuis regretted that punch so much. It painted him as that guy, and it cost him dearly when it came to the Springboks.

Ok it wasn't an official test match series but does that really matter? Had the Cavaliers (All Blacks) won the series they would have been gloating about it. Shame sporting boycotts prevented the Boks playing in the first RWC in 1987. They had the nucleus of a great team to match the ABs in 87.

Danie Gerber, not respected today but no one in the world who saw him play at the hight of his powers could deny how great he was. We have had some good 13s in South Africa but for me he is the best to ever wear that jersey!

"Watching the 1986 All Blacks in action was witnessing rugby at its finest. Their toughness, skill, and sportsmanship set a standard that few teams have matched since. It's disappointing to see the modern All Blacks veer away from that legacy into what feels like entitlement and unsportsmanlike behavior. The game deserves better."

@@nepiahemopo1702 during the 70s the All Blacks played in South Africa and I can remember Sid Going fondly! Nearly every primary school scrumhalf wanted to pass the ball between their legs at scrums. Those days rugby coaches used the rope on their whistle to stripe a bottom a quick one for making a mistake.

In the end the result worked out for the best. I think had the Springboks won the series there could have been much more trouble in New Zealand. One thing about the series that gives me comfort is the fact that the Springboks out scored the All Blacks overall. Over the three tests the All Backs scored 51 points and the Springboks 55. Not many teams in history out scored the All Blacks over a three match test series. This was not an ordinary tour. The Springboks slept in locker rooms at the stadiums on occasions. Still they came within a whisker of wining the series. Luckily this group got their revenge in 1986 when they thumped the Cavaliers.

Even the Springboks in Isolation between 1971-87 were still competitive at International Level and they Proved, just that 4 -5 year Period 1987-92 they had lost alot of good players and it took between 1992-95 to become Good again.

The 1970 All Blacks went to South Africa and the expectation was a series win to the All Blacks, they went through the non test matches unbeaten and looking good and entered the test series as favourites. Dannie Craven worked the All Blacks weakness out conned the All Blacks Management team and selected a team of hard tackling back line, and the stupid All Black coach played right into his hands. Result a 3-1 series win to the Springboks, and the start of 1970s decline of the All Blacks
