He ought to know that I yelled that line once when I was in a clearly marked crosswalk at an intersection in Carson City, Nevada after disembarking from the Washoe County RTC Regional Connector (formerly InterCity) express bus and some inconsiderate prick in a car failed to stop to yield to a pedestrian like me in a crosswalk.

1.) Taxi driver was part of the production who was SUPPOSED to drive into the scene as he did. 2.) On the script (on line), bottom of page 36, right after the Ratso DIALOGUE, the ACTION describes the PREPLANNED "scripted" encounter between Ratso and the taxi. 3.) Hoffman was obviously AWARE that the cab was going to enter the scene, and come as close to the actors as possible for the realism of a NYC street 4.) Hoffman was then to simply react to the PRE PLANNED taxi driver by improvising his reaction. 5.) To say the taxi entering the scene was a mistake is UNTRUE.

@@U2X2 Actually I was. That scene was shot at 6th Ave/W. 57th St. The cab scene was written in the script and Hoffman was aware of it. The plan was for him to ADLIB the scene and play it AS IF he was almost hit by the cab. Although Hoffman's reaction to the SCRIPTED cab are his own made up words, the cab, and the driver were planned AHEAD of time. They wanted the realism of the tough and gritty NYC streets. But don't take my word for it, do a little home work on Google, or better yet read the book.

it was a "stolen shot" so the film crew had no authority to stop vehicles.. they had to play along with the traffic lights and traffic flow. dustin is a genius though
