Have you ever put down clover seed at the first of winter n let it set all winter for spring germination?
@TurkeyHuntingUSA
@TurkeyHuntingUSA 21 күн бұрын
@@kennethwright3786 I have tried that and it works but I typically like the fall planting the best. If you can get your clover coming up in the fall it will have a jump start in the spring and it will crowd out some of your weeds. Best of luck.

Thanks for sharing this. I have been doing this for years. I use oats mixed in with my clover to start with. Where I live, Louisiana, I plant mine in the beginning of October. I bushhog after it seeds out. Thats when the white balls develop on top, after the little balls turn brown, mow it down!!! This has always worked out well for me.

Do you prefer the scope over a reflex style sight? Old age is starting to catch me, thinking I need to add a sight to my set up.
@TurkeyHuntingUSA
@TurkeyHuntingUSA 6 ай бұрын
Yes sir. I was hesitant to try a scope but once I did and gave it an honest try, I would be lost without it now. It helps me to see clear shooting windows if I'm in a thick area and I also like the ability to be able to study the bird a little better before taking the shot. It might not be for everyone, but I absolutely love mine. I have a Nikon Turkey Pro. Thanks

At the 12:55 mark you mentioned your bag seeder's bag spilling seed when filling. I use the Earthway bag seeder and I took a plastic "bucket" that small trees are sold in, and I cut the bottom out of it and made a cut lengthwise. I then folded the side onto itself to make a "funnel" of sorts, and pop riveted it back together. Now when I fill my seeder bag I will slip this "bucket funnel" into the bag and can fill without it falling over. I have also started using the Extreme Blower Product seed attachment that goes onto your leaf blower. I have found this to be WAY MORE EFFECTIVE in doing my "throw and mow" process.

So you planted this in the fall? Is it too late to plant for turkeys this spring?
@longspur6914
@longspur6914 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve had the best luck planting my clover in the fall. You can plant in the spring but you have a lot of weeds to compete with. I would say yes, it is too late to plant now. Your seed probably won’t start growing until the ground starts warming up. Here in Kentucky, clover is not actively growing. Thanks for the questions 👍🏻👍🏻🦃🦃

Beautiful plot,how long do your clover plots last? Do you spray them with round up and then till or do you just till and not spray. Do clovers require a rotation? If you wanted to plant brassica would the clover come back if you didnt spray? Sorry for all the ? But I'm curious and want to do it right.
@TurkeyHuntingUSA
@TurkeyHuntingUSA 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you, it’s my favorite food plot choice. Typically they will last about 5 years if you take care of them. Yes, starting out you can use round up and then till your ground to prepare it. That’s one of the main reasons I like to plant it in the fall, so the clover can establish while the weeds are not as active. Then in the spring, the clover will choke out most of the weeds. After a clover cycle, I usually let the field rest a year before planting it back. I believe that’s a good rule with any food plot to give them a rest from time to time. I would say that some of the clover will come back if you planted brassicas. I do have some fields that I use to plant clover in and the clover has come back on it’s own. Thanks for the questions and write back anytime. Good luck with your plot. 👍🏻☘️🦃

@@TurkeyHuntingUSA I've never understood the question how long does a clover plot last. If you don't reseed a lawn weeds will take over. Once established I frost seed $15 worth of clover each year and my clover plot has "lasted" for 15+ years.
