ABOUT HOW LONG IS THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER VICKSBURG OLD HIGHWAY 80 BRIDGE?
@g.carroll8357
@g.carroll8357 Күн бұрын
Went across in late 1968 and at night. Trucks were scraping the sides of the bridge, causing sparks, and it was a white knuckle drive on old Hwy. 80. The interstate had not been completed at this point. Some parts had interstate but few.

That style of architecture is so much more appealing to me than shopping malls and skyscrapers because it has a much more human feel to it. I do get that population density in cities pretty much demands going vertical. Funny thing is that for most of my working years I worked in shopping malls in cities and suburbs.

Not 1926 but 1925. It left the Wurlitzer factory on May 29 1925 and was actually supposed to go with a Herschell Spillman carousel like what happened with 3673(lost) and 3629(Glenn Thomas's collection). It did arrive at Glen Echo in around April 30 1926 however.

I worked for the base weekly newspaper, the Yukon Sentinel, May 1971 to October 1972, or thereabouts. Brigadier General C.M. Hall was the top dog at the time. Great to see this stuff, thanks!

You've just made me very homesick! I grew up in Southern Indiana, which has the same kind of roads and farms, houses on the hill, and small towns (some smaller than these). Any of these roads could have come from where I grew up, and we used to wander up and down them just like this. You brought me back to when I was younger. I live in Chicago now, and I really miss the back roads and knowing who lives in which house, and ... Thanks for this video.

Remember being stopped on this bridge going Eastbound to allow semi trucks going West to pass by. Looked over @ the still under construction I-20 bridge & saw an iron worker walking nonchalantly across to top. Only safety equipment he had on was a hard hat, no harness, nothing
