Unpopular opinion, and I get if this is like cursing in the church, but for the discussion I thought the hook was kinda whiny and annoying, and the general atmosphere of the song felt intimidating and stressful to me.

Bohemian rhapsody is what it tries to be like, but fails miserably. I'm a music producer for all kinds of styles, one thing they all have in common and that is the structure. It's ubiquitous and the #1 rule mandatory for writing compositions using even numbered timing signatures. All the tempo changes leave the audience unable to physically and verbally show support. My diagnosis of the incoherent sum total is aspergers with ADD. Are we supposed to dance, sing along or watch in awe of his performance? Nemo is probably a very nice 'guy?' and don't belittle his performance because you could feel and see the artificial construct (Nemo binary feels the same) pandering to the most powerful and influential ESC voting block, the gays. And swaying the jury of so-called music business 'professionals' further showing the corrupt- abilities and what's behind the facade of paradise. Just follow the money. One more thing, +90% of all the Italian votes went to Israel. Really? Ask yourself, to what end and possible purpose(s). Think about justification and saving face. Who fits that description? So it's all part of the game, the ESC feigns impartiality responding with a barrage of empty catchphrases. Now, you.

Now I'm reassured, we can send you all the artists that follow the rules but are never original because they dare nothing. Fact is, Nemo tried and won. What will Nemo do with, futur will tell... For this kind of artists I will suggest to ask the Swiss selectionners or Anaeve as producer. But of course, you can't just break the rules, In music you have to do it so, that in the end it feels right. But it is also the way, that we moved from medieval to renaissance, to barock, classical and so on.

At last, I needed some time to find the analyse that emphasize the mind blowing construction of this masterwork. Yes it takes you by the hands and from surprise to surprise leads you to the end. But surprises are easy done. Whats amazing here, each surprise makes sens. Is a new brick in the wall (story) thats beeing constructed. Professional jurys just couldn't ignore this song. No surprise that it won so many 12 points, and no surprise that there are so many comments and analyses on youtube. Because that's probably a record too. Not to mention that there are generaly very positiv. And now they are multipling on the orchestral version, that is smashing as well.

irritating song as well as the artist Nemo, the jury destroyed the Eurosong for the third year in a row, the number of participating countries is decreasing, I'm afraid it's slowly going towards shutting it down😮

Third year in a row? In the last 8 contests, 3 overall winners came from the public vote (Israel 2018, Italy 2021 and Ukraine 2022), 2 came from the jury vote (Sweden 2023 and Switzerland 2024), 1 won both sides (Portugal 2017) and 2 were "compromise winners", winning neither side but placing well enough to get enough total points to win (Ukraine 2016 and Netherlands 2019). The jury winners in 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 did not win overall (2 overall 2nd [Australia 2016 and UK 2022], 2 overall 3rd [Austria 2018 and Switzerland 2021] and 1 overall 7th [North Macedonia 2019])

interesting analysis but doesnt really explain how The Code manages to beat 24 other songs and gather most number of points to win Eurovision. There are many other good vocalists and songs in the contest. Reasons for the win in my opinion: 1) (Major major reason) Staging - the idea is "simple", but the execution is flawless. Every aspect, from camera angles to lighting is intricately planned out. Watching the performance is like a theatrical experience and the staging perfectly fits the meaning of the song. Without this staging, the song would not have over 200 points in the televote. 2) Timing/Momentum - Rim Tim Taga Dim was the hot favourite to win all eurovision season and (un-strategically) chose to not change much from the national finals. the staging for The code was only revealed in full in semi final 2 and had buzz/momentum going into the finals. 3) Authenticity - Nemo is singing their story that is uniquely theirs and you can feel it watching the performance. 4) Likeability/Effort - The song, however impressive, may not be to everyone's taste, but Nemo comes across as very likeable, sincere and is trying very hard.

Thank you so much for going into so many details on the performance!👏 I agree with you in all the points! I guess my aim was to look at the song more from a songwriter/music producer’s point of view, as it’s my profession and it’s something I understand a lot about)) so I could for sure have missed some more global factors, so thanks for pointing them out ❤️‍🔥

BL received the award as the best performer according to the votes of ESC fans from forty countries around the world. And too powerful! In addition, BL is the only one at ESC who wrote the music, text and arrangement for his song. His text, which talks about growing up and leaving his parents' home, is extremely witty and very deep. Everyone can recognize themselves in it. And the story of BL is by far the most beautiful story of ESC. The unknown young man, who wrote songs for others, could not make a living from music. Then he wrote two songs for himself, IG BOI and Dont hate yourself... The songs are excellent, but they were not successful. As a last attempt, he sent his song Rim tim tagi dim to Dora - the Croatian selection for the ESC song. And- he did not enter the final. He decided to work as a copy writer. Then they inform him that one of Dora's participants has canceled, which never happened, and he is performing as a reserve in the final. He has never appeared on stage as a performer before! Unlike the others, he only had a month to prepare. And he wins overwhelmingly with 247 votes from the audience (the runner-up had 27 votes) - no one has ever won so overwhelmingly on Dora. No support, no money! He shoots the video with his fiancee, friends, relatives, with his grandmother (with whom he kneads the dough in the video), and his fiancee's father films the video. The dancers who performed with him at the ESC in Sweden are also amateurs. He released only three songs and almost won the ESC. After the ESC, although he did not win, thirty thousand people, the prime minister, the mayor and many prominent Croats spontaneously welcomed him in Zagreb. He receives an award of 50,000 euros from the government because he represented his homeland worthily. He donated that money to two children's oncology hospitals. His first concert was sold out in 4 minutes. In short, it's Baby Lasagne, Marko Purišić - one of the most beautiful Eurovision stories, the realization of a Croatian dream.

I really like BL, I like his story, the song. But Nemo also writes their songs, texts and produces them and the staging was absolutely Nemo's own. All people that cooperated with Nemo are just there to follow Nemo's lead. Even very good and successful musicians in Switzerland ask Nemo for advice. That doesn't mean Nemo is better than BL. It's just, Nemo also can do everything.

Very nice analysis! As you mentioned, this song throws so much at you that it's impossible to take in everything the 1st time; my ears pick up something new each time I listen! For example, I love that background of pizzicato strings during the rap section, which helps to highlight the frantic upbeat tempo while establishing the chords & chord progression. Just a very unique, well-constructed composition - not to mention the performance!

When I heard it for the first time I thought, what's the point, somehow confusing, but on the other hand interesting and gripping. Then, like you, I came up with the idea: For me, O and 1 could mean right and wrong, black and white, my partner's opinion and my opinion in a relationship, that means a binary situation. Now it's about finding a compromise, maybe getting out of your comfort zone, breaking the code, THE CODE, trying something new together in order to be happy. However, Nemo wrote the song about the hard road to self-discovery as a non-binary person. Then this little song just grabbed me, a small, universal piece of wisdom. In a TV documentary/now also on the Internet, Nemo and his 3 cowriters explained that the song was musically created very spontaneously and through trial and error, following the lyrical guidelines, until it was noticed that the musical styles they tried out reflected self-discovery well. Within a day, The Code was born. Then it was about the details and bringing in experts for video, stage and dress etc. If you're interested, here's a fantastic acoustic version: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/iNSGibepuKrecXU.html and for tolerant people an orchestral version in a dress imitating Céline Dion (Swiss winners 1988): kzfaq.info/get/bejne/laqhg5CJydCXmp8.html Have fun with all styles of good music and all the best!!!
