I think author of this film is a man who knows kendo (swords martial art) very well undoubtfully.

I came here after watching this magnum opas of an animated feature for the 13th time and i am still emotionally invested everytime i watch it. Even though i know the plot inside out the goosebumps i get immerse me as if it's the 1st time i engaged with thiis movie. That final fight scene between the Russian Chinese conscript and No name has to be one the most striking animated cinema feats of this generation. The climax was so beautifully done that the subtle hint at the movie title was almost missed as in the end they both held the sword of a stranger. I believe Luo Lang to be a Russian decent nationalised Chinese probably with a similar upbriging and backstory to No Name. The 2 of them sharing a reflection of what was past while engaging in the final stand off. They both highlight each others contrasting motives and characteristics where Luo relishes in getting a warriors death living every breath like a timber wolf with ferocity. Then No Name trying to abstain from breaking the promise band he made after slaughtering the heirs of a fallen clan, kindness ultimately saved him in the end as he let himself forgive. Man I love this movie. I really hope in my mind that No Name lived but here's me the eternal optimist. Shout out to Tobimaru as the most valued character arc of the whole film. Nanashi uses a Katana. What Luo Lang uses here was probably a Xiu Chun Dao, a standard issue sabre for the Ming Dynasty special task force "Jing Yi Wei" (The silk-clothes guards) reporting directly to the Emperor of China. Katana is traditionally a two-handed weapon so therefore it is heavier to wield, while Xiu Chun Dao was a single handed weapon but designed with a longer handle so that it could be wielded with two hands, it is also slightly lighter so it can be drawn & wielded faster, that's why you're seeing Luo Lang mostly uses acrobatic moves with this sword because this is how it was meant to be used. However in a direct clash, you noticed Luo Lang had to hold the tip of the blade to suppress Nanashi because his blade is lighter compared to Nanashi's katana.

This was a pretty slick last fight of Sword of the Stranger I saw on July 13, 2022. The blue spark clashes were very cool, a bit reminiscent of Sasuke swordfights. Bones did some quality grounded anime then like madhouse. Almost like precursor to Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. 1:20am 5.4.2024

No matter how many times I watch this, I can't get over how well made this final fight is made. The music, the sounds of the swords clashing, the choreography. Everything about it is just perfection.
