Hey guys I have a 100 gallon rubbermaid plastic tank outside, will it overflow when it rains? How do I protect it from overflow? Do I need to protect it? Will the fish die from overflow? Please let me know.. ❤

Just did a search on the sinningia eumorpha; more than one cultivar out there. Not much for sale. Do you know exactly which cultivar this is please?

We list the cultivar names in the plant list and in the inserts that pop up when the plant is shown. It's just straight species S. eumorpha.

Informational, yes. But more importantly for me, empowering. I will be a more discerning plant shopper from now on. Thanks.

I can’t wait to make this. I was wondering if you can use a styrofoam fish box (used to transport live fish to pet stores) as a core to make large troughs lighter. You would need to pat the concrete mix around all sides of the box…maybe cutting the styrofoam corners off would make the corners stronger. Also,would chicken wire be a good reinforcement? Just a few thoughts.

I used to get coffee grounds from local shops. Some negative effects when used fresh. After rotten they smell like cow manure and are very soggy, but nice soil amendment and stuff does well in the long run for me. Fresh, NO. Rotten, Yes.

Is the potting media that you guys are using strictly just pine bark fines? Or is it part of a mix? Like with compost or potting soil? Great video by the way!
@jcraulstonarb
@jcraulstonarb 8 күн бұрын
For the plants in our nursery, we use straight pine bark fines because we have automated irrigation and water every day. Straight pine fines drain really, really well and we would only recommend it for a home gardener who wanted to water every day or even twice a day. That said, amending a store-bought potting mix with pine fines is a great way to improve drainage for plants that don't like wet feet.

For pot bound plants, should I hose off all the soil to bare roots then plant in the garden with lots of compost?

Despite protection, I lost my "Angels Earrings" Fushcia in north Georgia 2 winters ago. The ones I've found haven't been nearly as tough. I love my shade plants, especially my natives.

Blake, thank you so much for your follow-up question about what to plant instead of Crepe Myrtle. A gardening group that I belong to on Facebook had a newbie question about "What is this beautiful tree?" and folks were trying to persuade them not to plant it. I was challenged with, "Well, what would you suggest instead?" and could only come up with one answer. I have written down the different choices offered and will share them with the group.

Something to replace the nasty crepe myrtle? Yaupon Holly!!! Multi-stem, evergreen, and America's only caffeine-producing plant so you can get delicious tea all year long. Great for the ecosystem and great for the taste buds. You can't beat that combination, imo. I just wish more people were growing it in their yards. Got three of them going last year and they are doing well. It's still early days, but I hope they'll be around 12' tall soon.

Great discussion, thank you. Have a question about Cornus kousa 'Summer Fun'. I planted it under a large tree in spring of this year, it did get an hour or two of afternoon sun. But as soon as our temps climbed to 90s, it died. I live in zone 8a, NC. The question I have is, can it tolerate our heat, I want to try to grow it again.

Grew a guaranitica hybrid Salvia x Plum Crazy this summer, because of its performance in UGA trial. Nice magenta purple too. Not so "blue". Dark calyx, and good dark green foliage.

Perfect description of the heat domes that form over Texas and large city's that are covered with asphalt and concrete. There is nothing to absorb the heat and use it for growth instead of radiating it back into the environment. Concrete and asphalt are not discussed about their contribution to global warming. People don't look around them much when looking for a cause they look for someone else to blame.

To me as a gardener dirt is something that is on your shoes and soil is something plants grow in. ❤ . People say I must have a greenthumb and I say no its actually brown because you have to keep your hands in the soil to learn anything 😂.

I’ve not had luck with Nemarosa either in Savannah, GA. At 46.25, what is the name of the variety that Tim said was in the Sclarea sub group, is across from the rose garden and looks like a “giant Nemarosa”? Tx

Great video. You mentioned salvias creeping into the rose garden. Sarah Raven says she intentionally plants salvia with her roses because she thinks it cuts down on diseases and pests with the roses. Any evidence of that at JCRA?

I've heard that you can grow Gloriosa rothschildiana on long island when you give them a good mulch for winter.
