These Vets did not get the recognition and appreciation they should have. Respect and shame on all those that treated them like rubbish on return. Typical US behaviour.

The most beautiful art is in the simplest things but full of love. I am from Mexico and here we cultivate gourds since our ancient civilizations. I am fortunate to produce them and you never know each seed that appears will give us. I loved your work, the work you does in the gallery and maintaining this beautiful art by sharing his knowledge with others. God bless you always. Hopefully one day you will visit us and see our crops (here we call them Bules or Huajes).

Four of my high school friends never returned. We all took basic training together at Fort Gordon, Ga. I knew them since the 1st grade. Little did we know then what the world had in store for us. Here I am at 80 now, recovering from a president who didn’t respect us. He was a draft dodger. What was it all about?

When you guys were being drafted I was a little kid and remember everyone terrified for their big brothers and dads. Too young to understand war but not too young to feel that terror and sadness about those going. My dad was retired Navy and watched nightly news about that war and I remember asking if you guys would come back and he told me just if and how that would happen. It was just so, so terrible. When the war ended I was still little but just remember being so happy that you who survived were coming back. I'm so grateful you came home. Seeing how very young you guys were just tears me up so much. You guys went over as little more than hopeful high school kids and in those few years came back as grizzled, hardened men, that joyful boyhood innocence left forever behind in that Godforsaken jungle with your brothers who couldnt. And for what. 😓💔 Welcome home, to all of you and thank you to all who payed the ultimate sacrifice. 💔🙏😓🇺🇸❣️ For all our military. Thank you. 🙏

William Calley Army commanders had advised the soldiers of Charlie Company that all who were found in the Son My area could be considered VC or active VC sympathizers, and ordered them to destroy the village. When they arrived shortly after dawn, the soldiers-led by Lieutenant William Calley-found no Viet Cong. Instead, they came across a quiet village of primarily women, children and older men preparing their breakfast rice. The villagers were rounded up into groups as the soldiers inspected their huts. Despite finding only a few weapons, Calley ordered his men to begin shooting the villagers.

Those who fought in that horrible war are all winners. There is a difference in losing and being forced to stop. Had America stayed over there we would have been victorious and viewed as such. My uncle Glen, spent 4 years in Vietnam and back then as now I am so very proud of him. Thank you all Vietnam veterans for your sacrifice. I love you all.

My Dad was in Vietnam 1967. Never spoke of it. Sometimes we would be watching TV and he would just blurt out little snippets of his time over there. Not much and I never really pushed the envelope. Said guys would get on the heroin and would have to stop and drop to shoot up? Sometimes during a firefight. I would just nod and say wow. As he got older into his 70's he, I guess wanted to make his peace with what went down over there. We lost Dad one cold Nov day in 2017. Blood clot broke lose and went into his heart and that was it. I pray he was able to make peace with God before he passed. I miss my Dad and I am proud to have followed his path and serve my country for 20 years. # combat tours under my belt, not that is means anything as thousands have served and I am in no way 'special' Just a proud son of his Dad. Love you Dad and will see you down the road one day.

Everybody who served in Vietnam had different experiences there. I was lucky. I avoided becoming potential cannon fodder by enlisting for 4 years, getting the training of my choice, which was language, and ended up sleeping in air-conditioned barracks--in the last nine months, and never being shot at personally. I spent 30 months in country first translating telegrams and then decrypting low-level numeric coded tactical messages and translating it. The closest I came to combat was having my station mortered in Tan Son Nhat Air Force Base in Saigon, with a shell that killed one person some 50 yards away. The only combat vet I saw was in a Saigon bar--he was dirty, unshaven, and looked almost like death warmed over, and like someone you didn't want to talk to. I did not make many friends and remained the loner that I am today. And I used my language to study the history and prehistory of Vietnam.

Privileged middle class white kid with high draft number. Just lucky. I watched a good portion of my block in DaBronx enlist or get caught in the draft. Some I saw again , some I didn't. Yes, I was one of those kids protesting on campus & in Washington, but I always respected the warrior., while hating the war. I can never express the all the respect and thanks I feel. J.C

Dear Vietnam Veterans reading these comments. Thank you for your service. Us Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans got all the recognition in the world. At times we got thanked too much. We know what you men have been through and we feel bad because our service was applauded and appreciated by every man woman and child. While you men got spit on and forgotten. Please remember that your sacrifice and the bullshit you men went through, is why we get our recognition today by all these civilians. It Hurst so bad knowing what you went through. And I hate to sound rude. But you men deserved way more than us iraq/Afghanistan Veterans ever got. You men went through hell 10X worse than we ever would of. Thank you for everything.

I'm not sure that can be stated as fact as much as subjective opinion. You cant really compare the two conflicts, especially the context of afghanistan/iraq with the 15 saudi arabian hijackers and osama the saudi arabian mastermind; nor is it comparable to iraq given it was based on fabricated WMDs by Rafid Ahmed Alwan Al-janabi who admitted he fabricated the WMD evidence in 2011 interview with the guardian, which didn't really matter much anyway considering the CIA had already concluded in 2004 that he fabricated the claims. I'm pretty sure Iraq/Afghan vets didn't face the same treatment mainly due to the fact that 9/11 happened, and the western media in total unison told the world it was a bin laden hit within 24 hours the media solved the case, re-running old clips of osama firing a rifle in Afghanistan during the 80s soviet occupation era when US was funding Al Qaeda indirect through CIA Operation Cyclone. I mean the average US public citizen on the street is generally room temperature IQ when you start talking about any in-depth topic especially geopolitical or foreign policy, while there is a abundant amount of experts and people with credentials who are smart, but constitute small %s of the public. The Vietnam war, unfortunately was nothing but a proxy war for the US/Soviet union. Amazingly nobody cared when vietnam reunified as socialist. The world didn't end, and nobody gave two shts. Crazy to imagine but, common sense would dictate it doesn't matter it was just a exercise for defense contractors etc to test military equipment and munitions I guess.

I’m a second generation Marine but my dad passed before I joined in ‘68. I was 18 at the time, soon to be 19 in a few months. I was very lucky to be stationed at an airbase, Chu Lai 68-69 1st MAW MAG 12. If I hadn’t been, I might not be here today. The odd thing is, my family, friends, relatives and coworkers never asked me anything about Nam. And I was never harassed at the airports coming home. It was like I was never there. But here I am. I’m 73 now.

Mental shocks can be felt early in life. Even in infancy. The damage is traumatic & can cause life long stress. Here’s a poem with an implied cure. Poem's title is “The New One’s Center Had Moved.” The new one’s center had moved. The infant’s place of anchor had gone. Neither the boy nor young man knew. Their lives were marked as well. All lost to empty time of living, Where wisdom & books have no meaning. They each looked to the man to be. “Grow up,” The man yelled. “Look out for yourself.” They all wanted a way back, Back to the place of beginning. They asked a fix from him. “Between the rising & setting sun,” He exclaimed, “Go to the beginning there. Breath out the flames which burn your heart. There your body & voice of being can be found. A life of quiet, joy & peace.” Hurry - The old man is coming!
