#WorldRefugeeDay is a chance to show compassion and solidarity with our fellow human beings. Many of the 100,000+ people who have risked their lives crossing the Mediterranean are #refugees, fleeing violence and #conflict. World Refugee Day is a chance for leadership. It is a chance to give refugees our support.

The Elders have a beneficial advantage over many world leaders yet they still cannot bring themselves to speak the simple truth, and that is, that our planet earth is Over populated with 8.5 billion hungry mouths that mother earth cannot sustain. The only way to begin an urgent change is being awareness of this global disaster of Over population. Leaders know this yet refuse to educate most people because religion stands in our way of spiritual evolution. It is up to the parents to be responsible and educate their children instead of waiting for the Imans, rabbis or mulas or gurus to do this. Sabrina Gibson I can't think of much Peter Gabriel has failed at either. I mean, compare his career with that of his old bandmate Phil Collins. He hasn't made anything like as much money or sold as many records, but his impact on the world and making it a better place is so much greater than the tax-dodging, wife-faxing, homeless-patronizing, adult-contemporary-dross-singing tub-thumper and I reckon people will come to recognize that in future generations.

My 2 Sense <3 I am so grateful for The Elders and their compassion for humanity which serves to tactfully & gracefully pull at my aching heart. I crave peace and I work every day to bring it out in the world. Watching this video, I hear an echo for peace from the other side of my heart. (Between 1:44 - 3:00) What I was hearing in my mind (on World PEACE Day) was this: "Adversity & chaos can unite and transform us, if we know how to find our way we can build any bridge. We can unite in a universal language based on openness, respect & honour; we can unite within ourselves, to inspire the spirit of who we are and bring out the best in each other; we can unite at the heart of any matter (in this case "global leadership on climate change") to reframe our understanding of peace; we can create new clear boundaries that are balanced by true justice and mercy; we can learn to story one another from birth to death in a way that transforms our joy, meaning and purpose in life. If we really want politicians to act differently don't we need to do more than just keep calling on them to act and to 'find solutions'? Wouldn't it help them along to show them solutions on a new scale of ambition? 'Mitigating climate change' sounds so weedy it's no wonder things have got worse ever since climate talks started. Because The Elders are politicians or ex-politicians. When you are a hammer or an ex-hammer, every problem looks like a nail. Having said that, reading your links, making corporate entities pay for carbon-negative activities yet through more laws and regulations will only result in higher cost of living for ordinary individuals down the chain. This will never be well-accepted.especially by those in under-developed/developing nations - it becomes more of suppression of the poor and enriching more of the top few....which is probably very much the driving force behind politicizing "climate change" idea. There is no one fix-all solution, neither do we have a short-cut to change course overnight.

panda id Perhaps you should take another look at the link? The outcome is shifting funds from fossil to renewable energy - and creating new money for carbon-negative activity. This strongly supports the poor and developing nations. But perhaps your job is to argue against effective climate solutions so your employers can continue to profit from the current suicidal course??

Dealing with our environment/climate change is individual responsibility. Do not make it political by involving and shifting the responsibility to world leaders. We should be thankful if the Elders with their powerful connection could talk some of them out of constant wars which account for much environmental and human destruction. Lead the people by example of living simply and caring for Mother Earth, reduce our own carbon-footprints. There really is no reason for high-profiled summits that really only serve self/special-interest groups. If you must have a summit, try teleconferencing tools instead. It is an oxymoron to highlight climate change while expecting attendees to increase their carbon footprint by flying in to New York. Such a waste of resources. How can you possibly expect anyone to take you seriously?

We do not need to make it political. It has been political all along.I think you do not understand what the word means. I have lead by example since the late 60's and it has not changed anyone. You have got to convert everyone for your "plan" to work. As we do not now have time and the slow and loving way did not work it is necessary to pull together all our resources and no individual can do that. In Canada, our prime minister is in the pocket of the oil companies. The oil companies cannot be brought to their knees by making nice. They just are not that kind of people. People in Calgary are afraid to discuss this at work. They are told not to go to protests. They will never turn if it means losing their nice lifestyles. The very act of discussing this in public is a political act. You need to learn what politics covers instead of throwing the baby out with the last of our water. Vote. Rally others to vote. Don't sneer at democracy...use it.

Sandy Clements I understand your frustration. Nothing works when the politicians and ex-politicians are in the pockets of big corporations. In cases like this, when politicians/ex-politicians are involved (especially when they are living a lifestyle that contradicts their purported cause), we should be skeptical of the true nature of the intention. The people like yourself will beg them for "protection" but you will not know until it is too late. Just saying. Ask the Elder to help nations cut military expenditures drastically and eliminate wars. Wars are one single energy waster and contributors to quick, larger environmental chaos. They have not and will not do it. You can bet on that! They will get nations to pull together and get the ordinary people to pay more for those elite groups' mistakes instead through veiled/non-transparent legislation. You will cheer them on thinking that you have won. And no, you don't need to "convert everyone" for your plan to work. You just need to understand what/whom to "convert".

If I may be so bold as to suggest, The Elders should lead by example as Desmond Tutu preaches. With current technologies, you don't really need to be in Paris unless you are cycling there. Reduce your carbon footprints by using teleconferencing tools to deliver your message(s).

I've been trawling through KZfaq, watching documentary after documentary about Cyprus - and none feature any Turkish Cypriots. I know about ENOSIS (the Greek wish to unite the island with Greece), I know about EOKA B targetting Turkish Cypriots - but all we ever hear about in these documentaries is the Turkish invasion. *Not the reason for it.* There WAS a Turkish Cypriot population on the island for hundreds of years. Someone needs to create an honest, two-sided documentary.

Ralph Daay i know history my friend dont try to teach me my history! ANAN plan was all about giving everything to the turkcypriots and dividing the island and the ppl even more! ANAN plan was even giving the waters of Cyprus to the British near there 2 bases.. turkcypriots had nothing to lose but everything to gene and even more thats why they said yes!! while me, i was losing my home and i was giving almost half my island to foreigners to administrate. Think as this was ur country.. what would u say?

They are being exploited, not by superstition and witch doctors but on a much grander scale, not villages but countries. But as of old they are being asked to make sacrifices, to curb their ambitions and hopes, to accept a lower standard of living, to be happy just to breath.

Not all of us are Super Heros, some of us can only do a small part. But if All of us did a small part, collectively, we can bring a Big shift in a way to bring a Positive Change. Can you imagine the great Rainforests gone? All else will collapse. Same for the Whales and Sharks. The oceans will never be the same. We as humans, and all other creatures that inhabit our Beautiful planet will cease no more. This is not what I want to lezve as a Legacy. Thankyou Elders. If only the Elders would listen to advice from people other than the scientists dictating present UN climate change policy which obviously isn't working. About half present warming is due to loss of reflectivity, something which is not too difficult to understand if you think about it, sunlight reflected off ice and snow passes through the GHG barrier, unlike that reflected off everything else. The loss of ice in the Arctic accounts for 25% of present warming. If the World Bank can fund painting ice bereft rock in the Peruvian Mountains with white paint, contributing to glacier restoration, then the UN can set up a Climate technology and Reforestation Program to restore reflection and shading to 1960 levels, YES... A PROGRAM, not just encouraging noises but without enough funding. And if all of us funded the program - that is all of us wealthy enough, and because we'd seen promotion in banks and post offices everywhere, then the poorest people could be employed to do much of the work.
