Question: I’m painting flowers on a long shirt. Do you think I could use an embroidery hoop to keep a section taut while painting? Can I use one without stretching my shirt out of shape?
@FiberDesignsbyAnn2 күн бұрын
Good questions and this sounds like a fun project! If the shirt fabric is non-stretch a hoop should work. It may help for you to watch my "Painted Fabric Landscape in a Hoop" video. I would suggest, when hooping, have the fabric laying on the surface - in other words - have the right side of the fabric (the side you will be painting) inside the hoop instead of on top, resting on a hard surface. BUT if your shirt fabric is stretchy and as long as you are careful with the heat setting - iron a piece of freezer paper to the inside of the shirt area where you plan to paint. The freezer paper will stabilize the fabric, and as long as your paint is not to watery, it should not bother the paint or end result. Don't remove the freezer paper until the paint is completely dry. Long answer but I hope it is clear and helpful. Maybe you'll share you finished project(?).

WOW -- door molding . . . what a great idea! The width of the molding makes the hanger nice and stable also. LOVE that you used your leftover fabric to make the sleeve. Yes, it was much easier for me to watch your method, but I think it looks sweet too! Thanks for another great video, Ann! 🥰

Turned out so pretty! Love that beautiful blue background. The Jacquard paints look like they are of high quality. Also, I never heard of a Stain Sharpie marker (looks like they are made to use on fabric). By the way, what type of fabric are you painting on? Thanks for another great video. Can't wait to see the next steps! 🥰
@FiberDesignsbyAnn2 ай бұрын
Thank you! Yes, Jacquard paints are, IMO, high quality. Yes, they are Stain Sharpie Brush Tip Fabric Markers. Though I usually paint on Pima cotton (the fabric dyed to make batik), this was a 100% cotton made from a thread that isn't as smooth as Pima. It was gifted to me. I think it would be considered a calico cotton; cheaper than Pima, fine to use for fabric painting, and actually easier to hand stitch on.

Awesome work does the fabric stay stiff or can it be sewn with a sewing machine
@FiberDesignsbyAnn6 ай бұрын
Thank you. Yes, in my experience, painted fabric can usual be sewn on a sewing machine; many of my quilts contain painted fabric and are machine sewn and quilted. Keep in mind that depending on the thickness and heaviness of the paint, needle holes may be more obvious. If the paint is applied to fabric as a wash or thin as watercolor, and using a textile paint, it can feel soft and much the same as commercial fabric.

Hi....LOVE the video......could I apply this method to a tshirt also ?😊
@FiberDesignsbyAnn7 ай бұрын
That's sounds like a fun idea. I haven't tried this technique on a garment. I would think that as long as you can us a t-shirt form inside or stretch the t-shirt onto other cardboard it may work. Maybe test it on an old t-shirt or piece of t-shirt type knit fabric. I would try first with the t-shirt or fabric dry and another wet, to see how the paint will travel/move over it. If you do this I'd love to hear about your results. Thanks for watching and commenting.
