Thank you!! Son & wife purchased a home built 1890s with these old radiators, perfect timing to find your video!

Its not advisable to sandblast these old radiators as you might disrupt the seals between sections, same goes for Powder coating.

So glad I came across this video! I recently moved into a apartment with these old radiators. Maintenance didn't clean them; so I needed to know how to clean them properly 👍🏾

Why would there be asbestos? These are/were never insulated/wrapped. Lead in the paint is pretty well a given

Thank you so much for sharing this...I ordered a pig bristle brush & a horse hair brush from Amazon (they called them radiator brushes) The first one has a curved end which helps get the back side. I now can clean our 1910 radiators!!

Working on a similar issue. Thanks for the video. I've decided to remove my 1 unit (of 3) Just because no one ever cleaned it and it dates back to 1874.

What did you use to strip the radiator of paint?
@prt9705
@prt9705 3 жыл бұрын
She spoke of tapping it with a hammer to loosen - in rough shape chunks will fall off Stripper will work, old pantyhose goes into the nooks and crannies - BBQ cleaning brushes, etc BEWARE the lead paint

@@prt9705 I would not recommend tapping a radiator with a hammer. They are cast iron and very brittle.
