should I buy a Makala MK-T or should I go for Kala KA-15c? Please suggest
@UkeStuff6 күн бұрын
Well, one is a tenor, the other a concert. That is the main consideration. I don't think the quality of the MK-T and the KA-15c are that different; the Makala will look more vintage, the KA-15c will look a little more modern and have the etched sound hole.

Any ukulele purchased from a good vendor will include or offer shipping. It all depends on your price range. I'd look at the Enya X1 Tenor as a great "middle" point between the Outdoor Ukulele (impervious to weather) and wood. It's HPL, which is offered by only two companies: Martin and Enya. The Martin OXK doesn't come in a tenor. Here's a link to the product from Amazon (and it is a referral link): amzn.to/4fbZx8H I am working on a review of the Concert version of this; and have reviewed several of Enya's HPL models in the past.

Does this work with passive pickup too?
@UkeStuff8 күн бұрын
It would depend on the pickup; I have had some passive pickups that work with an amplifier (no battery) and others that have not. You might have to try it to find out; at worst you would need to buy a small in line preamplifier.

Not an advert in my home market, and US adverts are VERY different to UK.. but all that said - just found it mildly amusing if a very lazy stereotype to punch.. but... didn't take it that seriously - just an ad. Ultimately as much as I champion the ukulele I also recognise that it doesn't suit everyone myself and to some it appears a bit silly That's their take. Think it's more in line with the uke world to be prepared to roll with those punches and be prepared to laugh at ourselves. Fundamentalism in music isn't something I'm a fan of. There are PLENTY of jokes and memes out there about bass players, lead singers, drummers, you name it.. All fair game!

To get minors maybe they could have a button right beside it's relative major. not to get too technical but play a G chord ( G B D) and the extra button raise the D to an E. Now you have Em...sort of
@UkeStuff8 күн бұрын
There are all kinds of chords you can play based on how you sequence the buttons; but doing so would be far too difficult for the solution we’re looking for in schools (assistive devices).

I don't know if there is any difference in tone, you'll mainly pay the difference for the binding--and construction differs wildly between these entry level Kala models as of late!

Hi, thank you for the tutorial. Questions re strumming. I find the arrows confusing. The black arrows alternating with white look like a strong DU(Rest/skip)UDU(Rest/skip)U pattern to me. I'm confused! I'll keep listening and trying and will ignore the arrow pattern.
@UkeStuff8 күн бұрын
Remember that there is no single answer that is right for strumming as long as you play the right chords at the right time, the strum matches the style of the music, and the strumming is at the right time.

@UkeStuffАй бұрын
I know what you mean. The Roadie 3 is great; but in my situation…and likely yours with all the stringing up you do (four necks on one instrument a couple of weeks ago!), the weight, angle, and battery life of the Jowoom is a winner for me. (Safari wanted to Autocorrect to “Winder,” which would have been somewhat accurate). The Enya solution kind of works, but there are some changes they could make to make it better.

Is it useful for wittner gear pegs also?
@UkeStuffАй бұрын
I would think not; if these are like Peghead ukulele tuners, the device is expecting a traditional geared tuner that is always going to tighten the same direction regardless of the side of the headstock. It does not work for UPTs (Ukulele Planetary Tuners), and I think the Wittner pegs would be similar.

Very instructive. Your characterization of the sound really does not agree with your microphone in my opinion. The Martin sounds fuller and richer to me while the KLOS sounds harsh and metallic. A photographer's choice of carbon fiber for a tripod over an aluminum one is because the CF one absorbs vibrations and does not ring which makes it an odd choice for an instrument.
@UkeStuffАй бұрын
The joy of adding audio is that you get to decide with your own ears, from the same set-up, of what you hear. The Martin is excellent-particularly with the different tuners I have now installed, but I do like the Klös as well. Is the Klös 3 to 4 times better than the Martin? Probably not, but it does stand a good chance of surviving harsh conditions in a more payable state than the Martin.

I too hate friction tuners: Martin and Flea/Fluke, please oh please put geared tuners on your ukes. We are paying enough for them that you could do that.
@UkeStuff6 күн бұрын
Flea doesn't have much room on the headstock for other tuners. I put the much-questioned Graphtech Plastic Tune-a-lele tuners on mine, and they are working, but they extend a couple of millimeters over each side of the headstock...and that's about as small of a tuner as you can buy, other than using Pegheads...which are great, but definitely more difficult to install (I have them on only one ukulele in my collection).

IMO they both sounds great. I have the Martin, and it’s not like a koa, but it’s HPL and still durable, though yes, it wont survive being run over by a car. Fortunately, this is unlikely. The KLOS is nice, but way beyond my budget.

I'm new to ukuleles and have been watching several videos on KZfaq on ukuleles. There was very limited selection of ukuleles at my local music store but they had one of these. I strummed it, sounded terrible but it was out of tune. I tuned it and tried it again... better but to my ears this sounds like a toy. It did have the high g string, so that probably didn't help with the sound. I am in Canada, so the price in Canada $224 + 15% tax = $256.60 I am not really hearing much of a difference between this and those $50 soprano bottom of the line cheap ones. This is also really tiny, I was expecting it to be a little bigger as they always look bigger in these videos. I guess I was surprised and disappointed, was hoping to hear something that sounded better.
@UkeStuff3 ай бұрын
This is Kala’s entry level ukulele; you really won’t hear a difference in sound until you move to a solid top. The big different will be space on the frets on a tenor versus that of a soprano.

No, that’s the cost of doing business on KZfaq. They offer unlimited free storage for your content and then offer the ability to monetize at a number of subscribers and watch hours, unless you channel (such as the UkePlayAlongs channel) doesn’t meet their guidelines (the play along channel is considered “duplication.”). Yet they make money off it. This is a legal fight no one would ever win.
